Katrina evacuees charged with cooking meth

Two Hurricane Katrina evacuees were found cooking methamphetamine Friday in a Gulf Shores motel room paid for by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, authorities said.
The Pascagoula man and woman were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Gulf Shores Police Narcotics Investigator Tommy Green.
Gulf Shores police stopped Jason Alan Cook, 22, for a traffic violation near the intersection of Gulf Shores Parkway and Beach Boulevard. He was pulled over at 1:15 a.m. Friday, according to Green.
The arresting officer discovered that Cook was in possession of meth and drug paraphernalia, Green said.
Cook led police back to the Phoenix All Suites, a motel about 200 yards east on Beach Boulevard, according to the investigator.
Inside the motel room where Cook had been staying, investigators found Jamie Lyn Murphy, 25, and a makeshift meth lab, Green said.
Cooking methamphetamine is a potentially explosive activity and could have turned deadly, according to Green.
"It was a very dangerous, volatile situation that could've been tragic if they'd have had a fire or explosion," Green said.
Murphy, who also was charged with possession of marijuana, had rented the room through a FEMA hurricane displacement program, according to a Gulf Shores police news release.
Police did not know how long the two had been staying at the motel, Green said.
Nice.
At least these evacuees are making an attempt to earn a living.
So now we have to arrest FEMA. How sad.

Oh, sure it is, as long as you're an Irish victim of harsh treatment by nuns or patriarchal whatever. Being the grandson of four Irish immigrants, I have plenty of problems with the Irish that I don't care about their victim status, however.
Gulf Shores is a nice place and is know locally as the 'Redneck Riviera.'
I wish FEMA would put me up over there for a few days.
