In 1986 the company I was working for wrote a new SOP Manuel in November it specifically stated that no solicitation would be permitted. In December the United Way was on the floor asking for donations so I went to the Warehouse manager and explained to him that the company was permitting an infraction of the new policy. The manager and the united way rep spent the next hour trying to explain to me how what they were doing was not soliciting, I haven't given them a dime since that time.

After college, my first employer reqired each employee give his/her "fair share" to the United Way. (The "Fair share" was a percentage of your base income). After that sad
experience, I never gave my so-called "fair share" again but I did donate to specific charities through them. After all the PC infected them I ceased any contributions whatsoever to UW.
