Dec 10, 2005 NEW YORK An off-duty police officer was shot and killed Saturday in a pre-dawn gunfight with two burglars outside his home, authorities said. He was the second officer to die in the line of duty in two weeks.
First, this story is a lie, because guns are banned in NYC. Second, is it just me or is "in the line of duty" losing its meaning?

Subway trains were stopped for several hours as the search continued. When regular people (peasants) are murdered in NYC, do they stop subway trains to search for the suspects?

Although he was off-duty, once he is involved in stopping a crime in progress he is on-duty.

As a Colorodan, I can understand why you're anti-cop. Those two officers who cowered in the Columbine High School parking lot while the kids inside were being executed is nothing I would be proud of either. If that went on in NYC, the NYPD would be coming in through the windows to have stopped those sociopaths.
Have a great day.

I hate it when the good guy loses. I hope the criminals die a cruel death.

Probably not, but if regular people were involved in the shooting, you'd bet they'd be arrested.

NYC is part of NYS. Governor Pataki, in his first term of office legislated a death penalty bill into law. In what appears to be his last term of office he recently initiated action which has rendered the death penalty law impotent. Death Row inmates in NYS will die of old age before any death sentence is carried out.

The officer was struck once in the chest with a bullet from a .357-caliber handgun. Before collapsing in the driveway of the home, the officer returned fire and struck both of the suspects one was hit twice, the other four times. If this is true I am in awe of his firearms skills... to have the presence of mind to hit two separate perps six times total while fatally shot oneself is amazing!

"The officer first called his landlord, then called 911 to report a possible burglary. "
Speculation on why he called the landlord first?

In a force on force training class, I was told that even a shot directly to your heart, you have about ten seconds before death.
To: Pharmboy
Gonna go hard for all the perps on the streets up there for the next few weeks.

Shit, Don't let coloradan hear you say that. He never met a cop killer he didn't like.

More info from the Times:
The battle yesterday unfolded on Arnow Place near Westchester Avenue in Pelham Bay about 5:20 a.m., the police said, after Officer Enchautegui, who had been on the force for three years and worked in the 40th Precinct in the Bronx, was awakened in his basement apartment at 3117 Arnow by the sound of breaking glass.
Officer Enchautegui, who had been off duty for little more than five hours after working a 4 p.m.-to-midnight shift, got up and called his landlord, Henry Dziedzic, upstairs and asked if he had heard the breaking glass. The landlord said that he had not.
