Critics Aren't Keeping Quiet Over 'Silent Night' Lyrics Change School Under Fire for Having Kids Sing New Words to Classic Christmas Song By ADRIENNE MAND LEWIN Dec. 9, 2005 - The latest salvo in the "war on Christmas" has been fired -- this time over the lyrics to the venerable Christmas carol "Silent Night."
Many who believe Christmas has been overly secularized are pouncing on a Wisconsin school that will present the tune with different words, under the title "Cold in the Night."
'Mocking' a Traditional Song? The controversy began when the father of a student at Ridgeway Elementary School in Dodgeville, Wis., was upset with the lyrics his child brought home to learn. He told the non-profit group Liberty Counsel they are: "Cold in the night, no one in sight, winter winds whirl and bite, how I wish I were happy and warm, safe with my family out of the storm."
Offended by the new words, he was unable to convince the school not to perform the song and contacted Liberty Counsel, which provides free legal assistance in religious freedom cases.

Atheism is a religious belief too. It is the belief system that there is no god. Agnostics are the ones who say "don't know".
End Atheism and State.
Freedom of religion is not Freedom FROM religion.
And chase the godless communists out of government while you are at it.
emphasis on the aaah? Some terrible writing going on...
How about the happy Honda-day? It seems they play those commercials (there are several versions of them, all using the same song) every break.
I envision Jesus frantically pacing back and forth in front of the throne of God saying "Come on Pops, what on earth are we waiting for? Let's roll already!"
Or that time-honored favorite...
Jingle Bells...Batman smells...Robin laid an egg...
Sorry, my head just exploded.
The Nazis used to do this sort of thing. They'd take a popular big band song and replace the lyrics so that they would be about "Roosevelt and his Jews" and losing in the Pacific. All part of their propaganda broadcasts.
Simple enough but the lyric changes would poison the mind and could still echo in your head when you heard the instrumental passages of the song later (say by the original artist).
These weren't done as parody to my knowledge. I don't think Nazis understood that concept.
I envision Thor frantically pacing back and forth in front of the throne of Odin saying "Come on Pops, what on earth are we waiting for? Let's roll already!"
You make a fabulous point. For someone to say there is no God is a statement of faith. The state should not endorse, or establish that particular belief as a formal policy. Separation of atheism and state!
Ditto.
So every parent who is Christian or who has the intellect to be offended by overt religious discrimination (this is the district that has hannukah, kwanzaa and Italian labafana "Christmas witch" decorations in the classrooms) should keep their kid home "safe and warm with the family" the night of that "winter concert"
What do these parents expect when they let their children be indoctrinated by the state?
I heard this version in Vietnam:
"Jingle bells! Shotgun shells! Charlie's in the grass!"
(It only goes downhill from there)
Why would anyone want to hear a song about their ex wife?
Let's start a slogan.
New lyrics sound more like it's supposed to be "Homeless Night".
ROFL
I'm with you, man! We should definitely get rid of both! Where do we start?
O'Reilly has been on a rant about this story, I guess the loonies running the school think the song is scary, might disturb the children. I don't think its the song that is scary but the teacher in question.
