Senator John Kerry once again claimed that US soldiers committed atrocities, this time in Iraq, not Vietnam. Most of us had grown tired of watching the flips and flops of Kerry. That little statement made us realize how close we had come to calling him Commander in Chief instead of the loser of the 2004 Presidential election. There was another decorated war veteran who turned his back on his country and his soldiers. His name was Benedict Arnold. The difference was Benedict probably earned his decorations.
Arnold was a battlefield proven leader. When he had been passed over once too often by a corrupt bunch of REMFs over supplies, rank, pay, etc. he finally left.
To compare Kerry to Anold is laughable as Kerry wasn't a small fraction of either the leader or the military leader that Arnold was.
Thanks to the Swift Boat Vets, we can all have a laugh at how close we came to having Kerry in hte White House.
No probably about it - Benedict Arnold was one of the best field commanders Washington had. The Battle of Saratoga would have been lost without his actions there. That victory was crucial to getting European aid and acceptance of the American cause.
The unfortunate problem was that Arnold was extremely unpopular with the Continental Congress. Therefor Congress deliberately withheld recognition and promotion from Arnold. His offended ego, along with a scheming wife, lead to his downfall into treason with the British (who promised fame, fortune, and rank).
Excellent !!!!!
