The maneuver, he noted, is aimed at sending a message of peace and freindship to the regional countries, adding Iran is ready to work with its neighbors to prevent crisis in the region.
More like "to cause" crisis in the region. I'm currently re-reading Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" and, for those of you who have read it, know what all those exercises led up to.

"Red Storm Rising" The best Clancy read, imo.

I think, IMHO, one of the reasons it's so entertaining is that Larry Bond had a hand in it.

This was the exercise those journalists were traveling to cover when their plane went down earlier this week.

If I were an innocent civilian, living in Iran, I'd be speaking with the family right about now, asking them which country they'll be moving to, TONIGHT.

Hitler in the 1930's used to say the same thing.
I find it interesting how many parallel's between germany in the 1930's and current day Iran are occuring.

Sounds like a good time to send over the B-52s.

one of the reasons it's so entertaining is that Larry Bond had a hand in it. No doubt.
Read it when it was first published (about 20 years ago now), but I clearly remember the F-14s going up to intercept the Soviet "Bear" and "Backfire" bombers. Incredibly suspenseful, especially since we were at a pretty hot point in the Cold War at the time. Also loved the chapter "The Frisbees of Dreamland" where F-117s made a night raid on the Warsaw Pact forces in East Germany.
