Seeing those pictures, I wonder will Southwest try to salvage the plane and return it to service? Given that the wings and most of the fuselage stayed intact they might just do it. (They'll probably need to structurally rebuild the front fuselage and replace both engines, though.)

It doesn't. Those frozen things don't pass for real sliders.

I had been hearing about the sack of White Castle hamburgers for years so about 6 years ago I came across some frozen one's at Sam's. I bought them since I'm almost always willing to try new foods.

If I remember correctly there were a couple of different ways they could be heated up with one being in the oven. Now, I knew frozen one's wouldn't be as good as fresh one's so I decided not to use the microwave (didn't want the bun to get hard) and used the alternative method of heating them up in the oven.

Even making allowances for frozen never being as good as fresh those were some of the nastiest tasting things I'd ever put in my mouth. If I was faced and forced into a choice between boiled okra and White Castle hamburgers I'd be hardpressed to choose which one I'd take. As a point of reference, even looking at boiled okra engages my gag reflex!

Are the frozen White Castles anywhere near like the fresh one's? If so I probably won't ever sample the real thing. Blech!!!

I bet they do. That's a 737-700, which is probably only a few years old.

Interestingly, I believe if they do scrap it, it'll be the first hull-loss accident for the "next generation" 737s.

I say that exact thing every time someone asks me if I'm afraid I'm going to die in a plane crash.

I am opposed to the reapeal of Wright for a lot of reasons, but one of them is because of the increased risk of something like what happened at Midway happening at Love. Love is way too close to homes and major roads.

Tragic that a child lost his life, but the media would do well to be more honest with less hype.

If it bleeds, it leads :(

Well, wasn't it an L1011 that came in low and decapitated someone on 114 at the north end of the airport before it hit one of the fuel tanks on the NW end?

Actually, I was kind of suprised no one claimed that the government was covering up terrorism. The tin foilers must have not been on FR last night.

I've flown into and out of Midway on Southwest about 6 or 8 times, all within 3 months of 9/11. The folks at Southwest were great. I like Midway, too.

I use Southwest a lot, but I'm allergic to all Chicago area airports. Every time I fly through Chicago something goes wrong :-)

To use the headlines......PLANE CRASH.......it wasn't exactly what people think when a plane skids off the runway in a blinding snowstorm.

Southwest has been flying out of Love Field for years. It's been their main hub for years too. Repealing the Wright Amendment won't mean there will be more accidents possible at Love Field. Part of the Wright amendment restricts SW or any other airlines from being able to have direct flights to airports in states that don't immediately border the Texas border.

http://www.fightwright.org/

The Wright Amendment is a FEDERAL LAW that was put in place a full six years after the opening of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to block long-haul flights out of nearby Love Field Airport. The sole purpose was to contain the then-small Southwest Airlines at Love Field while all the other airlines at DFW Airport figured out how to deal with deregulation which was causing airfare reductions across the rest of America.

http://www.keepdfwstrong.com/thefacts/background.html

Background
CREATION OF DFW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
As originally envisioned, the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth and their citizens joined together to design, finance, construct, build and support DFW International Airport. The cities of Dallas and Fort Worth adopted measures to orderly, efficiently and effectively phase out all other airports including Love Field, Red Bird, GSIA and Meacham Field from servicing any major airlines at those facilities and transferring all such activity to the new Regional Airport, which was later to be named DFW International Airport.

All airlines, except Southwest Airlines, moved their operations to DFW International Airport consistent with the cities' measures. In contrast, Southwest Airlines sued and won the limited right to fly “intrastate” (within Texas) service out of Love Field. From 1973 to 1978, Southwest Airlines only operated “intrastate” flights out of Love Field. In 1979, Southwest Airlines sought to fly “interstate” traffic out of Love Field over the objections of the City of Dallas and City of Fort Worth, DFW International Airport and other related constituent groups.
(snip)

The Wright Amendment was passed in order to provide protection for DFW back when DFW was a new airport. If you're interested in both sides of the fight about the Wright Amendment, I've provided links to 2 websites on opposing sides.

I think the media is going to pound on SW Airlines. They don't have a union, do they? Or a weak one? They also have a good, sound safety record. The type of traditional, American company that does not need government to make it work. The type of comapny the MSM loves to hate.

They are the most unionized company in the USA.

The media should pound on them, they have given them a break for the last 30 years. As for not needing government to make them work? Wrong. The only reason Southwest is alive and well is because of the Wright amendment which protected them out of Love field for decades, which allowed them to grow.

The MSM loves Southwest.

Hmm, Jet Blue fan? America West? Sounds like sour grapes to me.
My husband is a Capt with Southwest. At present is at the scene with the "Go Team". Any speculation about unions and how Southwest is the "media darling" is ludicrous! Southwest for the most part is a very conservative airline (read, Republican) so saying the MSM loves them is wrong.
Now, Jet Blue on the other hand is the favorite of Hollywood...go pick on them.
In the meantime, Southwest has an exemplary safety record, the company employees are very cohesive and happy.
We will get through this tragedy with our without the media of which I care not.
