Whether Ann Coulter or any other conservative can speak on a college campus without the threat of disruption on the part of Red Guard wannabes is an issue that must be settled. This has been a problem since the 1960s, as others who have related the experiences of conservatives like William Buckley, Al Capp, and John Wayne during the Vietnam era. One route would be to use the same tactics against Cindy Sheehan, Michael Moore, and other leftists. However, that brings us down to their level, and creates a Weimar Republic atmosphere, where Nazi and Communist/Socialist thugs used violence against their respective opponents' meetings. Additionally, college towns are enemy territory. There are far more brainwashed leftist scum than real Americans in such places.
Colleges, especially state-run colleges, should be compelled to provide security sufficient to protect campus speakers and vigorously prosecute disrupters. Conservative legal advocacy groups need to take colleges like the University of Connecticut, to court for failure to protect the First Amendment rights of Ann Coulter and those who wanted to hear what she had to say. University administrators may not want to protect the freedom of speech for conservatives, but they fear expensive lawsuits.
