Pumped him full of lead. They obviously ALL thought he was reaching to grab a bomb. They made the correct call, I believe.

This is exactly why we have Air Marshalls.
The guy was not allowed to cause harm.
An extremely dangerous threat was met equally.
Anybody else (or their spouse) want to be stupid aboard/entering/exiting the aircraft?

Yea .. well AT THE TIME the guy was threatening he had one and then after on the ground went reaching into his bag

I suppose the marshals should have waited to see if the guy was bluffing or not

I'm constantly amazed at people who kid about having a bomb while waiting to board. You hear about it all the time. Nuts.

An Air Marshall, armed and authorized to use deadly force to protect an aircraft and its passangers must analyze a situation in split seconds and decide when to use that deadly force as a threat to secure a suspect or to use that deadly force to eliminate the percieved threat of a real action of a suspect acting to possibly harm the aircraft and passengers the Marshal is sworn to protect.

A court will decide whether such decision was reasonable under the circumstances.

If the suspect did say "bomb" and/or if the suspect did reach into a bag as he was being arrested in a manner to threaten the Marshal, aircraft or passengers, then the Marshall was clearly justified in his actions, IMHO.

Shooting a weapon in an attempt to disarm, fire warning shoots and the like inside an aircraft or ramp is simply the procedure envisioned by the inexperienced willing to risk the safety of others rather than see the threat handled correctly.

For the air marshalls to react the way they did, they must have had good reason to suspect that this was the real thing. Any description of the couple yet?
