New Delhi: Union Minister K Natwar Singh on Wednesday handed over his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, bringing to an end the month-long high voltage political storm over his continuance in the government in the wake of the Volcker controversy.
Following up his decision on Tuesday night to step down from the Council of Ministers after meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Natwar Singh drove to the official Race Course Road residence of the Prime Minister on Wednesday evening.
"This is my letter of resignation from the Union cabinet as Minister without Portfolio. It has been a privilege to be a member of your cabinet," he said in his one-page communication which he read out to the waiting media after his meeting with the Prime Minister.
"My admiration for your sagacity, wisdom, calm and self-assurance grew by the day," he wrote.
The former external affairs minister said the Prime Minister would be forwarding his letter to the President.
