Something happened to him. He has bruises; and hospital records will document his injuries. If it was faked, he would have had to have planned the attack with a confederate, which means he should have the details down. What is consistent with the facts is that it was an road rage incident, and that he embroidered it; or that it was a road rage incident, and during the attack one of the yobs recognized him and said something.
That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it :-)
Two men in ancient times were walking along. One of them said, "Look at the beauty of the universe. Look at how everything seems to fit together. Surely God is great to have created all this!"
The other man said, "All this just happens to exist. If things fit together, it's just by happenstance. If there's order and apparent design, it's just coincidence. Can you prove or disprove that this God of yours exists?"
The first man said, "No, but can you prove or disprove that all this just happens to exist and that God had nothing to do with it?"
The second man said, "No, but my views are scientific so they're the only ones fit for public discourse."
And thus secularism masquerading as science was born!
I don't know of any times. But, I just assumed sometimes a conservative will beat up a lefty, not often, but in a country as big as America, I am sure it happens.
Nevertheless, his story isn't believable.
Not to the press. I wouldn't either.
What I find fascinating is that people who are distrustful of the mainstream media feel it's suspicious when someone won't pour out their heart to them. If he isn't cooperating with police, I'd find that suspicious. But staying mum to the press just tells me he's smarter than I first thought when I read his original email.
Very little in science is coincidence.
Agreed. But the police say they don't know either, yet he claims he CAN point it out. I have to assume he hasn't yet done so.
I don't know what happened, and yesterday the idea that he faked it seemed preposterous to me. But the police comment that they don't know, coupled with his "can but won't" language just screams "fishy."
And that, my friends, says it all right there.
It may turn out that he was beaten up. It could even turn out that he was beaten up for reasons having nothing to do with his childish behavior on the ID issue. Or maybe he fell down the stairs at home and decided to create a good Politically Correct story out of his bruises.
I don't have enough facts to make a judgment. If he was beaten for his opinions he didn't deserve it. But he doesn't seem to be a guy who's playing with a full deck, if you ask me.
Far be it from me to suggest that science is a coincidence!
I'm hoping that was scarcasm.
LOL--
I think you're confusing tow things. The discrepancy is that he talked with the police at the hospital, when he called them from the scene. That could be as easy to explain as 'I'm going to the hospital; meet me there.
The other problem is he doesn't know which of two adjacent section roads the incident happened on. If he's not real familiar with the area, that could happen. He said that before, he was driving around, trying to get his throughts straight before; and after, he was probably dazed. If I were going to fake something like this, I'd have a confederate give me a few bruises; then we'd both drive to the spot, him in a pickup to leave the right tire tracks; then I'd head off to the hospital; and my story would be rehearsed.
I'd credit the theory that he got beat up for some other reason, and decided to add the details about ID; or that while the thugs were laying into him, one said "ain't you the egghead prof on the news?" but I don't believe the incident was a premeditated fake.
There's the little problem of "filing a false police report" if it turns out that this is autoharassment.
RWP is saying he doesn't know what road he takes to work every day... Must be one of the absent-minded types.
I don't see what I'm confusing. The police maintain in their report that the location is unknown. He says he can (but won't) point it out.
So again, the two facts I see are: the police don't know the location, but he claims he can point it out.
That is very bizarre and he sounds like a nutjob.
I give it another 24 hours before the story falls apart for good.
You can hurt yourself like that, you know...
That sums things up very well. I would be happy with an agnostic approach to science, but it seems "agnostic" isn't good enough for certain folks. It has to be "atheistic."
