HARRISBURG -- The state Senate gave final approval last night to legislation that would make a small reduction in the personal income tax rate and provide some tax relief for businesses, but that Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell has vowed to veto.

We can't have any of that now can we?

...by law, once unemployment goes below a certain point (5%?)we do not have to pay unemployment taxes. We still are. The legislature has a $135,000,000 (Yes, that is correct, the Senate stated this) slush fund. Shouldn't we be getting our money back from these? Fat chance. Swann is probably our best chance for ABR (anyone but rendell)as the rest are all insiders. If Lynn screws up, oh well. He can't do any worse than what we have now. (Maybe he can stop this gambling insanity, but I doubt it.)

Just a hunch, but I think it will cost more to clean up the gambling mess than what the mess will bring in?

I can't remember the projections being tossed around, but realisticaly, I don't see PA bringing in more than Las Vegas, Reno and MS combined from gambling! What fools these legislators be.

I don't think he's the best we can come up with but he's the best running at this time. Unfortunately, good conservatives don't grow on trees in Pennsylvania and the few we do have are so bland or unknown that they can't get elected governor.

Jeff Piccola (R),-the House majority whip who has been somewhat sullied in the recent legislative pay grab, Bill Scranton- pro-choice (R) with gubernatorial name recognition, and Jim Panyard- a conservative (R) businessman who may be running under the Constitution party.
Swan may be the best best to oust fast Eddie, as he is the only one who could help us break the shackles of Philly & the Burgh.

What about Tom Ridge's Lt. Gov.?
He seemed like a competent fellow but the fact that I can't recall his name would be a reason against his candidacy?

Mark Schweiker.
I don't know why he had no interest in running against Rendell for Governor. He just seemed to drop out of sight. A shame, because he did a stellar job in the national spotlight during the Quecreek Mine disaster. And the few times I leard him speak at functions, he was impassioned as well as quite telegenic.
He could have beaten Fast Eddie according to the polls. Last I heard he was president of the greater Philly Chamber of Commerce.
