This is a war. You can be unhappy about it and sit it out. That's OK. That's what a democracy is about. You're right to dissent. You can criticize the war and vote for another government that will leave the field of battle. That's OK too. That's also what a democracy about.

But while an elected government and the young men and women it sends into battle are engaged with a ruthless enemy in the field, you can't work to cripple their efforts or do the work of the enemy side and expect the rest of us not to regard you as a saboteur and a Judas and an enemy within.

These thoughts are provoked by the lead story in Saturday's Los Angeles Times and then by a missing lead in the paper the next day. On Saturday the lead story headline in the Times was "Bomb Kills 10 Marines at Fallouja." What kind of a lead story is this? We're in a war.

There is no story. This is hardly news. It's like running a headline that today 110 people were killed in car accidents. Actually, that's a fact (or a ballpark fact – if 55,000 Americans die every year from car wrecks). But no one writes headlines about it because it's not news. It's life as we know it. As long as there are millions of cars on the roads and they're driven by people like us, there are going to be accidents and deaths. So, too, with war.

This morning I was driving in the car and heard John Mayer say on the CBS news at 8 eastern that Valerie Plame was retiring Friday due to her 'outing' by Robert Novak in a scandal the blew her undercover status and rendered her ineffective in her job. The scandal, Mayer said, has already netted Cheney's Chief of Staff and that Karl Rove is still under investigation. Plame, Mayer says, is considering suiing the Bush Administration for ruining her career

1. Novak didn't out Plame, it is an established fact that Plame was 'out' to anyone who knew her, and in any case had not been undercover for over 5 years when Novak wote his piece

2. Her job, apparently, included rogue operations against a sitting President

3. Libby is under indictment for his actions in the investigation, not the outing

4. Unless Mayer has a crystal ball he doesn't know what the Grand Jury is looking at. Saying otherwise is political sniping, not reporting

5. I say 'Bring it on', Mrs Wilson. Let's crack that can of worms and find out what other political dirty tricks are afoot at CIA. And let's get your husband on a stand under oath and straighten out a few questions that I have

Mayer and his ilk in the MSM still don't understand that people know there are lies being passed. All I can say is that I welcome his lies as they hasten the death of his master.

Rico...

they the Democrats don't care about the truth....and unfortunately the press is with them....its all propaganda for them..make up the news...as long as it supports your position...

I just was on the Sqwak blog....where Mark Haines wrote an article on Iraq...its a business show...I would say a balanced Repub/ Demo watchers. The hate filled comments from the left was amazing. They could not or would not discuss the talking points ..just He lied..people died....and extreme hatred for the President with no concept of the world at large...scary

The bigger question is, "Why are the MSM so obviously biased against Republicans and selectively report only the things that will damage Republicans?

The answer is that the MSM have a dog in this hunt. They are losing market share to other forms if information dissemination, like this one, Fox News, talk radio, etc.

The MSM would clearly like more legislation like the Campaign Finance Reform law, which limit information flow through channels other than their own. Obviously, this is much more difficult to accomplish with Republicans in control.

Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that the MSM are selectively reporting the news in a way to reduce Republican majorities and increase the MSM's chances to accomplish through legislation a return to their previous dominance that the free market no longer allows them.

It is obvious when Rumsfeld's critical remarks about negative & inaccurate reports about the war yesterday have been completely ignored or buried in newspapers, that we are at war with our own damn media.

We've all known this for years. The only way to shut these mother farkers down if for the Bush administration to engage this very real enemy. They need to call the media on it everytime innacuracies are reported and do it boldly with fire in their bellies. It's time this administration gets an effective communications department because the current one is an utter faliure.

The one and only thing I admire about the Clinton administration is that they had a war room aka a rapid response team to all criticisms. Hell, they defended the indefensible! Can't this White House defend the truth against our foreign AND domestic enemies?

They have to engage this media enemy if we are to have a prayer.

Circulation is falling at all the major newspapers, viewers are leaving ABC, NBC, CBS by the droves, the Food Network is now beating CNN. Fox news continues to grow during this MSM meltdown. Do we really need to worry about what the MSM has to say?

Plame retired because she completed her mission and can no longer be effective after her mission ended.
