HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Former Connecticut Gov. Lowell Weicker said Monday that Sen. Joe Lieberman deserves a stiff challenge in his bid for re-election next year - but it won't come from Weicker.
Despite some speculation to the contrary, Weicker said he would not run against Lieberman, a Democrat who ousted him from the Senate in 1988. That, however, didn't stop him from attacking the incumbent.
Speaking at a Rotary Club luncheon, Weicker sharply criticized Lieberman and President Bush over the Iraq war.
"I have seen this country propagandized into war," said Weicker, a Republican-turned-independent. "It's now a second wave of propagandizing, with the president taking the stump, joined by persons like Senator Joe Lieberman."
Lieberman, an early supporter of the war in Iraq, has drawn condemnation from some liberal Democrats in Connecticut for his position and blamed it for his loss in the 2004 Democratic presidential primaries

but I doubt this one will charge with his horns.
Joe may end up swithching to the GOP. The liberal Dems in Connecticut are fit to be tied because Joe Lieberman is above all an American and not an idealogue like that sc*m of the Earth Chrissy Dodd
Joe... Joe... come towards the Dark Side...
Is the Ex-Conn. gov an ex-con yet?
And like all leftist "choices," there is only one choice.
If Lieberman switches, it would be to an independent -- not Republican.
Givne the choice I'd vote for Lieberman.
Interesting history here. Lowell Weicker used to be the most odious RINO in the US Senate. He made Lincoln Chafee look like a good guy.
WF Buckley formed a group called BuckPAC, whose goal was to remove Weicker from the Senate. BuckPAC supported lieberman as a reasonable dem over a truly insane RINO. Lieberman won.
All-in-all, the Republic benefitted from getting rid of Weicker. I feel sorry for Joe Lieberman. He's the last of the Scoop Jackson dems and is completely isolated by the moonbats that run his party.
I don't know much about Weiker but that is apparently a good thing. I do consider Lieberman the "loyal" opposition.
Considering William F. Buckley supported Lieberman over Weicker in 1988, I don't give much weight to Weicker's statements.
He'd still have to vote for Senate organization. Jeffords became an Independent, but voted to organize with the Democrats. Which side would Lieberman vote to organize with?

Wow. Thanks for that info about buckPAC.
Weicker presents an interesting conundrum here in CT. EVERYONE hates him. We're reminded of that every year at tax time.
Lieberman is extremely liberal on social issues.
People think Lieberman is conservative because of his stance on Iraq but on domestic issues he votes with Barbara Boxer.
Lieberman's ACU rating is far left.
Sean Hanity supports Joe, as well. Joe Lieberman might as well face the facts. The Democrat Party has moved (on.org) so far to the Left that Joe might as well join the Republicans.
Yeah, but Weicker was a Pub LOL.
Lieberman is with us on Iraq but he is still a rat.
Remember he voted to fillabuster Miguel Estrada. On almost every issue except foreign policy Lieberman is far left.
He is good on foriegn policy but terrible on domestic issues.
Well that's better than Wanker.
The only rational thinking candidates from the Democrats were Leiberman and Gephart and they chose to run Kerry (funded by Soros).
