When registered voters were asked for their opinion of DeLay, 52 percent said it was unfavorable, while just 37 percent said they viewed him favorably. In 2004, despite negative headlines from a string of ethics complaints, DeLay won 55 percent of the vote in the 22nd District, which includes parts of four suburban counties south of Houston. President Bush also easily carried all four counties.
But when registered voters in the new poll were asked whether they were likely to choose DeLay or an unnamed Democrat in the 2006 midterm election, 49 percent said they would pick the Democrat, while just 36 percent said they would likely support DeLay, who has represented the district since 1984. The poll's sampling error was plus or minus 4 percentage points. (Posted 7 p.m.)

I'm curious why you have such confidence that he'll win by a large margin when he only took 55% last year against a nobody, and since then his legal problems have gotten worse.
To: Dog Gone
I thought Delay campaigned pretty vigorously last year. I remember reading in the Washington Post that for the first time in many years he'd been attending as many local events as possible to press the flesh.
I'm not worried about this district, because I don't think they'd accept a Democrat no matter what the circumstances. But I think it's going to be a lot closer than people here are saying, based on the '04 results and the prospect of a trial, and the comfort I take is that by some result Delay loses to a 51% Democrat, then Lampson's going to get bounced like a beach ball in the next election by any Republican with a pulse.

He has a fight on his hand, no doubt about it. He has a moderate dem who has name recognition and a history of being a congressman in TX, Nick Lampson. Add to that I live in his district and many of my family and friends who I know vote conservative are luke warm on him at best. Some are openly hostile. Myself, I will not vote dem, but I refuse to vote for a free traitor anymore. His cafta vote cost him my support.

Maybe it would be good for him to lose. The way I see it the republicans are taking the conservatives for granted as of late. If many of us stay home in 2006 they will be reminded to dance with who brung them.

An easy question, of the two people who have the best chance to be Speaker of the House(Hastert or pelosi) who would rather see as Speaker, and don't cop out with a neither, in Jan. 2007, either Hastert or pelosi will be Speaker.

So. I need more of a reason to vote for someone then if you don't so and so will win. When you pick the less of two evils, evil still wins. When in this situation the only correct play oin my humble opinion is not to play.

Neither. I have issues with both that to me are sufficient to warrant me not supporting either. One is a socialist the othe ris a globalist. Neither have the best interest of America at heart. I will fight for the issues I believe in and against the issues I do not. But I am through supporting people unless I believe it is in the best interest of this country.

Like I said before, neither is not an answer, in Jan. 2007 there is a 99.5% chance two people, Hastert or pelosi, will be Speaker of the House. Now which person would you rather see as Speaker.

Yes it is, I just do not see enough difference any more on 75% of the issues to care.
