"Does the Pope really have the divine authority to act in God's name? Who says so?"

Well, as a matter of fact... apparently Papal infallibility only applies to interpretation of scripture or of canon dogma. It seems the "authority" is granted by tradition, the Church, and the assent of Catholics en masse. As a lasped Catholic of little religious faith, I do not personally confer that right to anyone.

But while I'm on the subject... YOW! I have obviously stepped into a Mormon Minefield.
Mea Culpa. Mea Culpa Maxima. Just a question to anyone who may be in a position to know...Is the Southpark version of the story of the founding of the LDS a lie? According to what I learned in my Religion in American History course, it was pretty accurate. I just see founder of the LDS as an early L Ron Hubbard (only not nearly as malicious, paranoid, or greedy).

You think JLP is the next coming...good for you. I know that he has a near absolute zero following in his own community. Blanket insulting comments like "we all know that most of Black America is immoral" from his post-Katrina screed added to a history of similar invective have nailed that door shut.

If we as Conservatives want to effect change in Black America then JLP is decidedly not the man to front us. If however we as White people are looking for any Black man to say things to us that 'we all know but won't say' then he's our guy.

To pretend though that he has any influence or that Black America will listen to him is fantasy.

I dunno... I don't watch Southpark.

Don't get me wrong; I like the Pope and all, but it's a fine line we tread.
