Little old ladies do that with shopping carts as well.
Happened to my 4 month old H3 last week in Wal Mart parking lot. I was loading and leaving at the same time as an old lady directly across from me. She left the buggy right in front of her car and when she pulled out, the buggy rolled right into the front right quarter panel. The scratch isn't big, but it's my first.

I don't have a brand new car, but I park far out in the parking lot, preferably up hill, to avoid the chances of scratches from other cars and stray shopping carts.
Plus, its good exercise to walk.
What I don't understand, though, is why, when I come back out, my truck, that was alone in a remote corner of the lot, is now surrounded by an island of other cars.
I think some people can't park unless its next to another car.
Of course, those are the last people I'd want parking next to me, given the choice, which makes me wonder how useful this habit is. I guess I can always do it for the exercise only...

Sounds like something out of a 1950's era SciFi movie.

Yup... they don't give a flip about your car. But if they see someone careless with a cart that scratches their own vehicle, they'll go ballistic.
