I wonder if the Media can tell what number his victims were in '88?

I guess it doesn't matter?

....1,000th prisoner to be put to death in the USA ....

My question to the libs/softees over this issue is this:
How many lives did those 1000 executed animal take?

Tookie has 4 murders/executions to his credit, that we know of.....

"partly because almost every state now has the option of life without parole...."

There was an interesting discussion on the Michael Medved radio show yesterday about the (hopefully) up coming execution of the urban terrorist Tookie Williams in California. One point made by, I believe, a caller was that life without parole was actually long term torture while the death penalty was final. The point being that life without parole should appeal to those who want to punish slime like Tookie since it hurts longer. My thought was that if "they" ever get execution eliminated in favor of life without parole, they can then go to work to get all these lifers out of prison. I'm sure Charles Manson still has his champions in that regard

I heard actor Mike Farrell on Hannity yesterday trying to square his pro-choice position with his anti-death penalty one.

Hannity brought up late term abortions (patial birth) and Farrell's response was about HOW RARE such a procedure is.

As is Sean's wont, he let it pass without challenging Farrell on whether late term abortions are really more rare than excecutions: 1,000 in 25 years? That's only 40 executions per year.

I like Sean, but it drives me nuts when he fails to hit such an easy target.

Rick couldn't do that single-handedly. There is a proposal in the legislature, but I don't think it is moving through very quickly.

I could be reading this wrong....:

"However, Gov. Rick Perry signed into law an option to the death penalty in June. Texas juries involved in capital-crime cases now have the choice of meting out life-without-parole sentences or the death penalty - a choice some opponents of capital punishment think will blunt the pace of executions in Texas."

My views may differ from some on the death penalty.
Some say that its a deterrence. I dont believe it deters that many people from killing. One of the reason its not a deterrence is because of the time involved. Most dont receive the penalty for 20 years.
Some say its revenge some say its payback.

To me its taking a rabid animal off the streets.
There is no instance on record of an executed criminal ever hurting anyone else. If this rabid animal is left in prison he/she is a threat to other prisoners, guards, anyone who comes in contact with it. Placing this animal in solitary is harsh and worse than death so we are putting that animal out of its misery. As for their miraculous discovery of God, Jesus, allah, or calypso Louie. Its a little late for that Hoss. You can explain it in person when you face your Maker.

I just saw a guy on fox news and he said that even George Sorros, despite his best efforts, has not been able to provide one name of an innocent man being executed.

Of course, that will all change when Saint Tookie goes to meet his maker.

Only 1000 executions in a quarter century!? In 2004 alone there were approximately 3,300 murders in California alone. The U.S. murder rate hovers around 15,000 per year. 15,000 per year X 25 years is 375,000. Each and every murderer, found guilty, should have an appointment with the executioner. We're not executing enough murderers.

I want to see major regret on their faces as they take their last walk.

And it should be done PUBLICALLY! Not at 2:00 AM behind prison walls. Each execution should be used to show the other lowlifes in society what awaits them should they decide to follow the path of the condemned. And it sure shouldn't take 18 years to carry out the sentence.

One argument against execution is that it is irreversible. However, incarceration can't be undone, either.

If the killer brings back the victim, then the sentence should be commuted.

out of how many that are guilty? They were proven innocent ,great. No system is perfect.I believe in the death penalty and one appeal, one year wait then execute him.

,,, if it was true justice, the prosecution team should be executed where mistakes like those are made, resulting in wrongful executions. If it's 100% beyond all doubt, sure, let them bite the steel bar - and yes, like you say, the bulk of them are guilty. I think is way too high and reflects the quality of process. Test that by asking if you'd like to be put on the row in innocence.

Texas does not have the option of life without parole - there may be others.

As of Sept. 1st Texas does have that option. The Supreme Court ruling that will eventually result in the release of some Texas death row inmates who were 17 at the time of their crime was the reason for adding this option.

The worry is that the Supreme Court could rule the death penalty unconstitutional and the result would be hundreds of death row inmates getting out.

. . .one year wait then execute him . . .

Crime committed in 1988. Executed in 2005. Not that it's a bad thing to be cautious when dealing with human life, but we've become sappy in dealing with murderers.
