I think you would see the Red states sharply opposed to adding more states to New England or British Columbia entering the Union too. The other three western provinces might have an easier time of it. The statehood process would be lengthy as the provinces would have to be weaned off socialim and they would have to understand that entering the American union is permanent, as we in the South learned.

Like I've said many times, trade NYC and everything North of NYS to Canada for everything West of Ontario.

Everyone would be happy.

This is a tricky question. The answer from our (Australian and NZ) perspective is a no because on a practical policy level (such as who can sell alcohol, who should fund and run halthcare, should government unemployment benefit provision exist) the Right and Left in English Canada (i.e Ontario) agree with much of it. High Toryism begets Red Toryism which is "socially conservative supporting traditional institutions like religion and the monarchy but fiscally consensual and moderate, with a strong belief in the welfare state".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Tory

Generally support of free market and individual responsbility is quite weak in Ontario if we believe in polls and responses of a number of Canadian FRers here. We have no doubt conservatives in our two countries support free market and believe, like our American friends do, it is a cornerstone of conservatism. But then I talked about market forces being a cornerstone of conservatism on another thread and I was treated as if I were a space alien by a Canadian FRer LOL.

But back to the topic. Healthcare in Canada runs to the Left of us - here in NZ only the far-left Greens want a Canadian-style purely public healthcare system and I would imagine in Australia the proposal would never even have left the nutty left intellectuals' saloons.

A lot of Canadians will not be that happy with the thought these blue states will push their politics towards the "neo-liberal"/"American conservative" direction. For instance, Ontario can't stand Vermont's gun laws, and the existence of privately financed hospitals in Massachusetts (Harvard, for instance, will never allow hospital expenses funded entirely from "the public" because it means research opportunities with rich patients as cashcows will be cut).

They also will not tolerate New York and Massachusetts supplanting Ontario's political influence.

This factor, barely mentioned at the outset of the federal campaign, can be counted on to become increasingly significant if the Bloc's strength in Quebec becomes ever more evident as the campaign progresses. Pointing to the Quebec situation, the Liberals will paint themselves as the only possible saviors of the country. They will portray a vote for the Conservatives as a vote to see the country destroyed.

LOL! Someone has been spiking Ted Byfield's eggnog!

Canada Ping!

Please FReepmail me to get on or off this Canada ping list.

Someone has been spiking Ted Byfield's eggnog!

Not just his eggnog . He's been doing it himself. For years

I just read down through the posts here , My, there is a whole lot of stupid on this thread

I read, "Ontario can't stand Vermont's gun laws, and the existence of privately financed hospitals in Massachusetts "

That's new. Who knew.? Maybe one in a hundred thousand. Or two. Knew.

Within yet another of your typically uninformed, un-spell-checked and generally illiterate pontifications on matters Canadian, is found: " ... what happens after January if we get yet anotehr Liberal Party government"

Given that your short career on FreeRepublic has primarily consisted of spewing hatred toward Canada and baiting and insulting ALL Canadians, what's with this "we" stuff ???

Also, why did you disingenuously offer excellent Canadian FReeper Fanfan a truce in these areas and then ignore her once she answered you? (posts #75 & 80 here)

"...Ontario can't stand Vermont's gun laws ..."

Beyond some perhaps vague general awareness of the 2nd Amendment to The U.S. Constitution (federal law, BTW), I seriously doubt you could find even one person in ten thousand within Ontario with any idea whatsoever as to the content of Vermont's state gun laws.

As usual, you're blathering on matters you actually know little or nothing about solely to maliciously snipe at Canada and ALL Canadians.
