That system is already here, its called Video on Demand and you can get it in your living room. Except it will have higher resolution and contrast ratio than home HDTV signals.

Yeah and also you get the opportunity to pay five bucks for a coke and 3 bucks for a popcorn and 18 bucks for you and your sweetie to see the show or stay home and pay 5 bucks to watch on slightly less resolution with better sound and if you gotta go to the john you can pause the movie.
Somehow I don't see folks continuing to go to the movies when you can get just as good at home for cheaper.
