The annual brouhaha over whether it's Christmas or "the holidays" spilled over into the U.S. Postal Service this week, with the Internet and public conversation awash with horror that no new religiously themed stamp was printed for the 2005 season....

But patrons looking for a new religiously themed stamp this year are getting leftover Madonna printings from last year, touching off a wave of reports that the Postal Service was planning to discontinue religiously themed Christmas stamps.

"It's absolutely not true," said Diana Svoboda, spokeswoman for the Pittsburgh district. Next year's printing will include a new Madonna and the price stamped over her left shoulder will explain why a new one wasn't printed this year: Rates are going up to 39 cents per letter Jan. 8....

Those who were alarmed by Michelle Malkin's post that that religiously themed stamps were being discontinued "to avoid any legal constitutional issues" can rest easy now.

I picked up a book yesterday at the counter. She tried to hand me some "holiday snowmen" and I asked for something either religious or that said Christmas. After some digging she discovered several books of Madonna and Child stamps buried at the bottom of her drawer. I took them all.

I managed to get my last year leftover Madonna stamps by ordering them on-line. Had to pay an extra $1 but at least I got them. They were here in four business days.

I had no problem getting my Madonna stamps. Just told the clerk I wanted the religious Christmas stamps.

I had no problem getting mine either.

Speaking of stamps, this year's offerings are quite attractive. The latin dance series is lovely and the Greta Garbo stamps are the best since the Ronald Reagan stamp!

Can you tell I like stamps?

I picked up a pack of Jesus & Mary stamps the other day - they had two styles - Jesus/Mary and christmas cookie design. I bought the last of the traditional ones that they had (a package of 20), so seems like people are buying more of the traditional ones.
