NIGERGATE: DISGRACED EX FRENCH SPYMASTER ACCUSES THE CIA OF LIES AND DECEIT
In this article, published today by the Italian newspaper Il Foglio, the accusations of the disgraced ex French Spymaster, Alain Chouet, are torn apart at the seams. Basically Chouet accuses Italy of supplying false documents to the Cia during the summer of 2002 who then pass them to the French who declare them to be false. Thus the Cia lied to the American public and the US Senate Intelligence Committee.
Basically, according to Chouet, the Cia was stupid enough to send the documents to the French and after Paris declares them as being false the Cia send them to the IAEA thus assuring a disasterous own goal. As the article shows in order to go against Bush, Blair and Berlusconi the adversaries are capable of inventing and publishing the most incredible nonsense.

Who really is Mr. Chouet
After having run aground in its editorial and political attempt to frame Sismi and the Italian Government for having falsified documents regarding trade in uranium between Saddam and Niger, a favour to the neocon Bush administration according to La Repubblica, the Italian newspaper continues in its crusade.

In addition the article states that the dossier was transmitted to Chouet by the Americans, who then carried out an investigation, one held secret even to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris, concluding that the documents were false.
The Cia, who Chouet alleges knew the documents were false, is accused of lying to the Senate whose inquiry, in July 2004, officialy states (page 69, paragraph 3) that only on march 4, 2003 did the American government discover that France had based it’s initial analysis (that Iraq was trying to obtain uranium from Niger) on the false dossier supplied by Rocco Martino. The proof of all of this is the photograph of Martino with a French Secret Services agent, Jacques Nadal, recycled by the Repubblica yesterday. Chouet via D’Avanzo and Bonini claims that the photograph was taken in 2002 and proves that Sismi were already following Martino.
Qualified sources inside Sismi claim without hesitation that “the man next to Martino is not Jacques Nadal and the photograph is from the summer of 2004, from the end of July, two years later, and it was taken in Luxemburg immediately prior to the interview that Martino gave to the Sunday Times”. An interview that took place sitting on a park bench in Brussels on August 1 2004 (in the photographs published by the Sunday Telegraph on September 19 2004 Martino wore the same jacket and tie; as regards the circumstances and the dates there are plenty of witnesses because there were three teams of photographers on the spot: the Italians from Sismi, the French Secret Services and the photographers from the newspaper). Thus: the hypothesis that the Italians passed false documents to the Americans, who then, despite the fact that the French warned them that they were false, hid them from the Senate but before doing so consigned them to the Iaea in Vienna in order to have them declared false, is all founded on a claim that holds no water. Chouet claims that the photograph of Martino with a French agent, who is not the Nadal indicated by Chouet, is 2 years older than it really is, from an era in which, amongst other things, Chouet had already been fired. From my reading of a previous La Republicca article, three documents in the file were determined to be false. These dealt with the finalization of a uranium deal. Another document, dealing with a visit by the Iraqi Ambassador to the Vatican to Niger in 1999, is authentic.
Why is this Chouet guy jumping into this? Does he see it as a way to make some money?

According to Martino, the former Italian SISMI agent, the French had received these documents from him. So Chouet's story that he got them from the U.S. doesn't make much sense.
