Focus on the Family Severs Ties with Wells Fargo

Focus on the Family Severs Ties with Wells Fargo Following comments made on today’s “Focus on the Family” radio broadcast regarding the organization’s decision to end its banking relationship with Wells Fargo, Focus President and CEO Jim Daly issued the following statement:

“Focus on the Family has elected to end its banking relationship with Wells Fargo, motivated primarily by the bank’s ongoing efforts to advance the radical homosexual agenda. These efforts are in direct opposition to the underlying principles and purpose of Focus, and thus a decision of conscience had to be made, and a stand taken.

Earlier this year we learned that Wells Fargo gave a matching gift to a pro-homosexual group to enable it to raise more money to fight organizations like our own. As one of Wells Fargo’s customers, we objected, and we received no satisfactory resolution from the bank’s corporate office.

The homosexual group’s web page said this: “Incredible news: Wells Fargo has offered to help support GLAAD’s fight for equality against the Anti-Gay industry by matching your tax-deductible contribution dollar for dollar.”

We realize that if we dealt only with companies that reflect our Christian values we would have a hard time doing business with Corporate America. That said, when our bank allows proceeds from our business to be used to impede our work, we must object, even if it inconveniences us in our professional relationships.

We at Focus on the Family respect the worth and dignity of every human being. We are not attacking the gay individual, nor are we singling out Wells Fargo employees for censure. We had the opportunity to work with many Wells Fargo staff while in relationship with the bank, and we know firsthand the good job they do. However, we feel that the aggressive agenda of the homosexual movement and its activists is harmful to families, and we believe it is time to stand up and fight that. Our decision is not personal, but principled, and we trust our constituents and others will respect it.”

Looks like the bank fired the first shot...

Am I the only one who sees these weird characters (“) on the FR summary page?

I wonder what causes that?

Perhaps I have a virus.

Oh good. At least if I'm going crazy I have company.

It's weird, on the summary page the weird symbols appear, but when I'm in the thread, they're gone.

[Cue the Twilight Zone theme music.]

So does somebody keep a running list of all the (allegedly) pro-gay corporations I'm supposed to avoid?

I know I'm supposed to boycott Disney, which is actually impossible in my household.

I did a project at Wells Fargo several years ago. It was the GAYEST company I have every worked for, around, with, etc.

There was a VERY gay man who worked on my project. He was rude, obnoxious, lazy, showed up for about three or four hours per day and yelled at everyone. He reported co-workers to HR if they were mean to him. I never understood what the heck was going on and why they kept this idiot.

Then, I found out he was HIV+ and therefore, untouchable - in Wells World. This guy had carte blanche to be an a** to everyone. I'd say about 30% of the people I worked with were gay. It's was a fag parade every day.

HAPPY to be out of there! They called me back for another project and I said, "thanks - but NO thanks!"

Good for Focus on the Family. Stand by your values.

The main thing to focus on is to avoid backward, fearful, ignoramouses and of course, clueless homophobes.

You forgot racist, bigot, sexist and countless other liberal talking points.

Another one to add to my boycott list.

Maybe I should just make a list of places I can go to... I'm sure it'd be shorter.

Thanks for your opinion: but sounds like you are trolling, sounds like..

BTW: FOTF does care about the "children of gay parents"- It wants them not be involved in gay households becuase it is HARMFUL to children ~!!

Whether you think this is homophobic or not, matters little to me (and others), but don't come trolling around here, promoting the gay-agenda! NOT gonna work.

The point is: gays are not evil, sub-human, un-American, ect.. but the gay (lifestyle-sin) is that:SIN-WRONG, and Un-natureal in the rational sense, therefore it SHOULD be opposed, just like other vice should, and without eqating that to hate of the person with the sinful nature.

I don't keep a list of this stuff, but this article caught my eye. I bank at Wells Fargo solely because it's convenient.

I'm an annual pass holder for Disneyland too; I guess that I'll have to just disagree with these people and live my life to their annoyance.

I'm not sure if when Norwest bought Wells Fargo they moved the corporate headquarters or not. But when I worked in one of the Human Resources groups, the SVP I worked for was on the Charitable Contribution Committee - she also worked directly with one of the main mucky mucks (I think I've blocked names from that time period). She was actively involved in a lesbian relationship, and it was a well known secret, but somehow her boss didn't know about it (she thought). When the top HR position went to a man, she left shortly thereafter (she'd been there 100 years or so.) I'm quite certain my Irish last name put favor on me initially imagine her surprise that not only was I not a latent Catholic, but an actively conservative fundamental Christian :)

I tried to get everyone organized to do a departmental Christmas for less fortunate (there are some in San Francisco besides the homeless) and I met such resistance - I wanted to participate in the thing Chuck Colson does for Prison Fellowship - no one would contribute to that.

I didn't last a year before I was looking for something else. What a depressing place to work (for me- I know there are lots of people in other departments who loved it.)

I'm not sure I'd call it the "gayest" employer in America - but certainly on the top level of gay friendly/pushy places.

I'm glad Focus is making a stand, but short of a regional bank, I'm not sure what major financial institution isn't gay friendly.

It was the Gayest place I've ever worked. The GAP was a close second and Restoration Hardware a distant third.
