Maris Shriver belongs to a prominent Dimocratic family, the Kennedys. Looks like she is working her "magic" on the turdminator.

That a center-left Republican like Schwarzenegger will do more damage than a liberal Democrat is almost axiomatic at this point, and rank-and-file Republicans have been burned enough times to realize it.

Well golly gee, I wonder who was taking the heat here on FR for saying that during the recall?

Reminds me of Mike Bloomberg, the Democrat leftist in NYC who switched parties right before the election because there were too many Dems running, and won.

All the GOP folks cheered, not realizing that he's no different than Dinkins.

Amazing how mesmerized certain Pubbies get at that little "R" next to someone's name...

The "FRench Wing" of the California Republican Party sought to devastate the grassroots conservatives and replace them with moderate operatives of their own at FR.

RIP (Rest in purgatory)

There is talk, he says, of drafting Tom McClintock to run against Schwarzenegger, and "Mel Gibson's name is being floated."

I voted for Tom the last time, and I'd vote for him again. On the other hand, I don't think Mel Gibson is what we need at this point. Mel is undoubtedly a great person, but enough already with the inexperienced celebrities.

Schwarzenegger hasn't enlarged or energized the Republican base, and his blatant giving away of the store is likely to undercut the chances of Republican officeholders across the board in the next election.

Are there any left in CA?

Wow!
This one is a masterpiece. Thanks (as always) for the ping.

By the way, I am beginning to suspect that Arnold is setting the table for a cynical and calculated effort to secure the nominations of BOTH parties. It would not surprise me at all to see Arnold file as a candidate in BOTH the Democrat and Republican primaries. He may even have his new CoS working behind the scenes to work out a Democrat Party draft of Arnold complete with "trial balloons", etc.

George is the first columnist I have seen make the claim that, had Arnold not entered the recall race, "Tom McClintock would have won easily". That's an eye-opener, but I can't think of a columnist that I trust more than George Neumayr.

Although we can never know, I believed then and still believe that Tom would have had a real shot. But "easily"? I don't know about that....

A conservative revolt is brewing and will likely upend the "French wing" of the California Republican Party, says Spence. He has been bombarded with calls and phone calls from seething California Republicans. They feel burned

On the bright side (if there is one) Arnold's "coming out" party will likely unite the Republicans against the inevitable Democrat tax hike proposals. Whereas the Arnold who was successfully faking his Republican bona fides and flaunting his celebrity may have been able to shmooze the necessary handful of wavering Republicans into voting for a budget with a tax hike, Arnold's sudden loss of currency and credibility with the GOP might have killed that scenario.

This Arnold craziness might actuallly end up making tax hikes LESS likely to get the two-thirds vote.

"shrewd Democrats who let Davis twist in the wind knew it, seeing Schwarzenegger as a Trojan horse for liberalism and a far more effective proponent of the Davis agenda than Davis ever was or would be."

And there you have it my FRiends! Just as Carry_Okie and several others here on FR have been articulating for over 2 years here on FR!!!

Take a bow, there, Mr. Carry_Okie and all you others who know who you are. You have been besieged like Christians being fed to the lions in the colleseum for far too long over this terrible trojan horse! Bravo!!! Encore!!!

Arnold Schwarzenegger's selection of archliberal Susan Kennedy, a former Cabinet secretary to Gray Davis, as his new chief of staff "is the last straw for a lot of grassroots California Republicans,"

Until the next last straw.

Coming soon!

Strange I thought the closet democrats were the party members that left him hanging out to dry.

I thought the closet tree hugging nancy pants liberals are the ones whom constantly kacetch about consevative purism and abandon anyone that doesn't pass their litmus test.

As a matter of fact, I know that the closet liberals are the cannibals and subversives that hang around her. Wagging their fingers and calling anything that moves a RINO or neocon.

Idiots.

Agreed. Republicans will stay home in droves next November. The GOP RINOs will become extinct. I regard a massive defeat as a salutary development. The sooner we bid Arnold a la hasta vista the better will be the CAGOP's long term prospects.

I think California Republicans have to face facts. Their state gave John Kerry, a guy who is more Dukakis than Dukakis, a significant victory margin. They aren't going to get a solid conservative Governor. They tried it in 2002 against ol' Gray and still lost. Short of San Francisco falling into the ocean, it is going to be that way for a long time.
