Reporter's Notebook:
The Making of "Winning Iraq"
By Greg Palkot
FNC's Greg Palkot
It was one of those good news/bad news offers. The good news is you get to go to Iraq to do something more than the typical schedule of live shots. The bad news is you get to go to Iraq and do more than the typical schedule of live shots. Meaning: You put yourself in as much harm's way as nearly possible to find out how people not trying to cause harm are living.
You see the point is, we, out of necessity in the business, have to cover the suicide bomb attacks, insurgent raids, and door-kicking which get most of the headlines in the Iraq story. But there is this whole mass of people in Iraq who, IN SPITE of the trouble, are getting on with their lives. And, in many cases, making their lives better than when tyrant Saddam was around.
**SNIP**
Will it all work out? Wherever you stand on the debate on the war, you have to hope so, for the sake of the people in Iraq who had no say in how things went one way or another. In the documentary on Saturday night, you'll meet a whole bunch of these people. And we promise you that you won't see a single press conference by a politician bloviating, as my colleague Bill O'Reilly would say. I invite you to tune in. I promise you its a side of Iraq you won't see anywhere else it needs to be seen.

After the first showing of this special at 9:00 Eastern, Greg Kelly had a show...
On it..he had Nadler and Rep. Murphy from Pennsylvania who just got back from Iraq...
Murphy commented on the special..and said it was a good show..showing the "good" that we are doing...
Nadler just ignored the special and spouted Murtha's lines about how we should never have gone, and we should leave ASAP!
Asked by Kelly if he had ever gone to Iraq...nadler had to admit he had NOT!
I'm pretty sure it airs again at 5am.
Thanks for the ping!
Set the VCR for 5am - a little under four hours from now.
And this show was only an hour long
I can't just imagine all the other things they could have reported if they had more time
THANK YOU GREG & FNC !!!

I think I've heard statements are close to these two I've written below. Can anyone tell me if they are true.
The U.S. armed forces have turned over control of almost 2 dozen bases to the Iraqis, with 8 dozen left to go.
Iraqis are the main forces (3:1) used in the operations over the past few months to establish control of the towns along the Syrian border.
What did Greg say? He'd spent 5 or 6 weeks traveling the country to make this special that amounted to an hour? THAT will be the lib line tomorrow. Lord, I hate the media for what they're going to do to this program. . .
Sorry, you missed a great show! (I put sticky notes on the top edge of the TV when I REALLY want to see something.) Worked this time; may not next. LOL!
Thank you. Dog barked, I didn't hear.
May God Bless Colonel Wood and his family. Rest in peace.
Actually, the Rep. Murphy that was on with Nadler asked him that...
He said that when he runs into people that are on the "withdraw ASAP" side..he asks them "and then what"?
Just sit back and watch hundreds of thousands of these happy people murdered, because they dared to try to form a democracy??? Let the terrorists have the whole country..and then join with Syria and Iran???
Good for him....but, of course Nadler wasn't made to answer that question.
I thought FOX did a good job and was fair and balanced.Long way to go but at the same time has come far.I'm not in the military and never been and regret it,but I think the real crime biggest mistake of the war would be to pull out to early.
What I got out of it the most is how could it could be and how bad it is still in some areas. I think were a couple a years away still but the progress has a good chnce of snowballing.I think the ones who fear that the most is the democrats..I mean how would it look if Bagdhad was safer than New Orleans in a couple of years?...Can you say Bagdahd Saints?...lol
Just d**n!! If I'm on the right post, this is the one AFTER "Winning Iraq"????????
Why wasn't Nadler poked and prodded? (with a hot fireplace instruemnt??)
Fox has had access to plenty of good news from Iraq since the beginning. What took them so long to finally show some of it? This isn't a game. I like Fox. I watch it 99% of the time for news. I just wonder what the reason was for holding back.
I had read the article in full that started this thread over at the Fox website, and so I knew that he had been killed.
When I told my husband as they were interviewing him, he about lost it. And then when they announced in on the program, he really lost it.
The Tree of Liberty is fed with the blood of patriots? I can't remember who said that. All of these death have been daggers in the heart, and the saying seems callous to me in the present reality, although I grant that it is true.
Do you have anyone currently serving?
I have adopted a fair number of soldiers in the war zones. I do a lot of praying...
Speculation is that the Democrats are calling for withdrawal now because they realize that we are well on the way to being able to draw down troops significantly in the latter half of this coming year.
Speculation is that the Democrats want to claim they forced the troop withdrawals, obfuscating that the withdrawals are a natural consequence of our progress. That way they can look like they are effective in fighting the Bush administration and the War in Iraq with their donors, and say, "See what we did? Give us more money and we will do more."
