MURTHA: [...] I said to Ambassador Bremer when he was over there, I said youre being too optimistic about this thing. Be truthful. The American public wants to hear the truth, and itll backfire when you keeping telling these dishonest stories you keep telling. [...] And he just ignored it. [...] theyre not telling the truth. [...] Theyre not being honest.
MATTHEWS: Is George Casey, the American commander in the Army, is George Casey telling the truth? Is he one of the guys giving the president positive vibes when theres no reason for them, or is he telling people like yourself the truth? Or both?
MURTHA: Chris, you know, I deal with these guys all the time. I know how they feel. Theyeven if they dont say it, I know exactly how they feel. And I know that he said, for instance, one of the problems in this insurgency is the American occupation. And hes saying in so many words, weve become the enemy. Thats what General Casey said.
Abizaid said basically the same thing. One of our policies will be to start to withdraw. I mean, theyre all saying what Im saying, but they wont admitthe sooner we get them out, the better it will be for Iraq, the better it will be for the ...
MATTHEWS: The president justlast point. The president said today that if any general in the field over there needs more troops, he merely has to ask me. Is that an honest statement?
MURTHA: Thats not an honest statement. Let me tell you something. I talked to one of the generals, he said he doesnt have enough troops to protect the Syrian border, and thats one of the missions that hes been given. So, you know, I know how discouraged theyve been.

Yes indeed. They probably pat him on the back and say "sure,.. yep! sure...Sure. Listen, Murt, I gotta run, nice talkin to ya!" Like you would any crazy man.
So Murtha is claiming to be a psycho...er...psychic?
bump for later
President Bush used names of two commanders. There are lots of lower ranks but they must ask their boss. The rub is no one has asked the names for more stateside troops. If you are at that grade you already know the big picture in country.
You are much pithier and more eloquent, and artfully added Lincoln to the analogy, but I said something very similar here.
[...] he's a lot like those bureaucratic generals who want a large (if not bloated) military with loads of infrastructure, equipment and weapons systems, but then don't ever want any of it actually used; or, if pressed, want it all used, i.e. insist on maximal (and often impossible) sized deployments. Note that up until he began to argue for withdrawal, Murtha was arguing for a ponderous and impossible Shinseki sized commitment [...] IOW Murtha's a HUGE or NOTHING absolutist, sorta like the infamous Union General McClellan during the Civil War who loved (and was loved by) his troops, but refused to ever DO anything with them, instead constantly whining that he needed more troops and resources.

It's just the military version of the union mentality anti-corporate crap that has been the standard political lie in Murtha's district for 100 years. What he doesn't mention is that he and his brother have become very wealthy people by extorting millions out of DoD contractors.
He's pro-military SPENDING for contractors in his district and clients of his brother's lobbying firm.
"Theyeven if they dont say it, I know exactly how they feel"
Are you so sure of that? Did you think what they are really thinking, but not saying, is "whatever I say you are going to twist it around, Mutha"?
They are as subtle as I am.
Hollyweird must be fuming!
"Retreat" & "Surrender" to the democrats is now redefined as "Redeployment" & "Withdrawal" -
"Mutha" is crying for his Mommy.....
To liberals "Victory" means hiding under the bed when the cat sneezes.
One FReeper said Mutha was a desk jockey in Viet Nam - Which I have read was one year (corrections anyone?) - How did Mutha get two Purple Hearts?
Processing John Kohn's very own self-typed applications for medals?
Are his wounds in the front or in the back?
Did he get that face from a failed French experiment?
How does he like prison food?
Murtha's arguments aren't exactly stellar.
He is indeed the latest Cindy Sheehan.
