Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said he would consider granting clemency to convicted killer Stanley Tookie Williams, the Crips gang co-founder who became an anti-gang activist while in prison.
The governor said Friday he would meet Dec. 8 in a private hearing at his Sacramento office with Williams' lawyers, Los Angeles County prosecutors and others involved.
Schwarzenegger, vested with constitutional authority to grant mercy and commute a death sentence to life without parole, is not legally obligated to hold a public or private hearing, and decides clemency requests on a "case-by-case basis," said his spokeswoman, Margita Thompson.
Williams, 51, faces death by lethal injection on Dec. 13 for murdering four people in 1979 a Whittier convenience store clerk and three people at a Pico Rivera motel less than two weeks later. He denies his guilt, and has also asked the California Supreme Court to reopen his case, alleging shoddy forensics wrongly connected him to three of the murders.

Lethal Injection
In 1977, Oklahoma became the first state to adopt lethal injection as a means of execution, though it would be five more years until Charles Brooks would become the first person executed by lethal injection in Texas on December 2, 1982. Today, 37 of the 38 states that have the death penalty use this method.
When this method is used, the condemned person is usually bound to a gurney and a member of the execution team positions several heart monitors on this skin. Two needles (one is a back-up) are then inserted into usable veins, usually in the inmates arms. Long tubes connect the needle through a hole in a cement block wall to several intravenous drips. The first is a harmless saline solution that is started immediately. Then, at the warden's signal, a curtain is raised exposing the inmate to the witnesses in an adjoining room. Then, the inmate is injected with sodium thiopental - an anesthetic, which puts the inmate to sleep. Next flows pavulon or pancuronium bromide, which paralyzes the entire muscle system and stops the inmate's breathing. Finally, the flow of potassium chloride stops the heart. Death results from anesthetic overdose and respiratory and cardiac arrest while the condemned person is unconscious. (Ecenbarger, 1994 and Weisberg, 1991)
Medical ethics preclude doctors from participating in executions. However, a doctor will certify the inmate is dead. This lack of medical participation can be problematic because often injections are performed by inexperienced technicians or orderlies. If a member of the execution team injects the drugs into a muscle instead of a vein, or if the needle becomes clogged, extreme pain can result. Many prisoners have damaged veins resulting from intravenous drug use and it is sometimes difficult to find a usable vein, resulting in long delays while the inmate remains strapped to the gurney. (Ecenbarger, 1994 and Weisberg, 1991)

I hope Schwarzenegger doesn'y think there is even the tiniest bit of goodwill from the left or from anyone else if he lets this freak live. Instance after instance of giving in to the left proves that the animosity only increases and he will be putting those who support him.

I saw an interview with Tookie. He denies everything, of course. Corrections regards him as a jailhouse con-man and self taught PR expert. If they thought different, I might suggest a second look, but this guy looks like trouble from the word "Go". I quickly read through the 57 page report prosecutors have prepared for the governator. There is no doubt that this guy is scum and a lying sack of sh*t.
Childrens' books my Aunt Fanny. This guy is a predator, a psychopath, and a cold blooded killer who needs to die.

Hey Doug....I think our folks in Texas have gained enough experience over the years that they have become proficient. If your boy Tookie is worried about it hurting...send his sorry a$$ this way....we will do it right, so as to not cause the boy any undue stress!!

I hear 'Tookie' is the honorary grand marshall of the Kwanza parade this year. They are hoping he will still be among the living as the parade is scheduled to take place more than a week after his execution date. Now really.. how pathetic is that!
To: churchillbuff
The Governor had better give as much time and consideration to the families and legal representatives of the victims as he does the gangster.

Ok Arnold, consider this. A life sentance vs. death.
If you commute this butt crack's death sentence you will be leaving the door open to an escape. He's tried it before and he has the organization (Crips), on the outside and the inside to pull it off. Now, if he escapes, no body in California, or the rest of the country would be safe. He has Crips all over the country that would hide him, and participate willingly in a murder and mayhem spree that you would be responsible for.
Kill him now and end this!

Question: When S.T. Williams, author extraordinaire, founded the gang, did he not know the proper spelling of "crypts" or was he naming his group after the slang word for cripple?

"I don't know enough details to know what the correct decision is in this case."
There is a thread around here somewhere which contains a link to a .pdf copy of the brief submitted to Arnold by the State opposing clemency. This summarizes the evidence produced at trial and Tookie's incredibly violent behavior after his conviction (plotting to kill witnesses) and while in prison. (appears to be a prison "enforcer.") The brief clearly shows that the evidence against Tookie was overwhelming. It also shows that after one murder, Tookie got a big laugh mimicing the dying sounds of one of the elderly Asians he shotgunned at point blank range to eliminate a witness. Although I am generally anti death penalty, in the case I've got to admit the world would be a much better place without this mad dog.
