Issue is far more complex than the article makes it sound.
You can actually have a glacier advance when it gets warmer...if there's increased precipitation at the altitude where the glacier begins.

I'd have a lot more confidence in this magazine if they didn't cite Lyndon Larouche as a science source on the front page of their web site.

Our current understanding of the long-term climate cycles shows that for the past 800,000 years, periods of approximately 100,000 years duration, called Ice Ages, have been interrupted by periods of approximately 10,000 years, known as Interglacials. (We are now about 10,500 years into the present Interglacial.) In other words, what are called "Ice Ages" are really the natural state. This is one of the "Hot Ages".

"make up your mind!"
I just presented the opposing argument. The floor is now open for discussion.

No matter which way the Earth's average temp trend is going, the enviro-nuts will still blame mankind for it.

Depends on one's time frame.
In the entire 4 billion year history of the earth, Ice ages are very rare and it's very unusual to have any ice caps at all.
However, within a long-term ice age cycle, the actual ice ages are more common and longer than the interglacials.

make up your mind! either we're globally warming or going into an ice age! No, no. Global warming will cause the next ice age. The prediction is that the influx of fresh water from melting ice sheets will shut down oceanic conveyor moving warm water north and cool water south. The loss of the Gulf Stream and start the ice age. Seriously!

The last Little Ice Age continued from about 1400 to 1850 (440 years). So, if truly cyclical, we wait another 305 years for it to occur...?

make up your mind! either we're globally warming or going into an ice age! Your statement is probably more apt than you think. Things are probably never stable in our world, so we more than likely ARE or AREN'T warming or cooling. Unfortunately, with the relative lifespan of a firefly's light, we don't have too many ways of measuring planetary trends.

If there is an ice age under way, it's because of global warming and it's Bush's fault.

I guess the entire "global warming" issue is more "nuanced."
