Governor (Arnold) taps ex-Davis aide as chief of staff (Gay rights activist married her partner)

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger -- attempting to regain his political footing after a devastating special election defeat this month -- has begun a shakeup of his administration by replacing his chief of staff with a former state Democratic Party official and top adviser to former Gov. Gray Davis, Democratic and Republican sources said Tuesday.

The hiring of Susan Kennedy, widely respected by both Democrats and Republicans in Sacramento as a workhorse operative for Davis, is expected to be announced officially as early as today. The move could kick off major protests from conservative Republicans.

Appointed by Davis to the California Public Utilities Commission in 2003, Kennedy had made her name as a political operative as the head of the California branch of the National Abortion Rights Action League. A longtime gay rights activist, Kennedy married her partner, Vicki Marti, in a 1999 ceremony in Hawaii attended by many California political insiders.

and the RINOld fan club thought they were supporting/voting for a conservative Republican.LMAO

like we said two years ago...
ya can't be a fiscal conservative and a social liberal at the same time!
ya gotta pay for all those programs somehow.

Well everyone found out...the hard way;
he isn't a fiscal conservative but he sure as hell is a social liberal now isn't he...

at this point, we can only hope and pray that Mrs. RINOld will convince hubby that they can't live on what he's bringing in especially since he returned all those millions from muscle magazine endorsements. And that they will return to L.A. and endorse McClintock for governor! Yes, that's right, governor! Not Lt. Governor but governor of CA!
All McClintock will have to do is delete the Lt. from all his bumper stickers and signs. :-]

Kelly

I thought Arnold promised to get rid of all those patronage jobs?

Schwarzenegger lost the recent initiatives because he spent the last couple of years proving that he is hopeless in every way.

How on earth could conservatives support him when he is pro-abortion, pro-gay, supported an enormously expensive fetal stem-cell research bill, "balanced" the budget by adding a huge new bond issue, and has not even tried to cut spending or taxes?

I blame Rove and Parsky for this mess. Arnold never would have won a Republican primary, so they managed to stuff him in after real conservatives organized the recall vote. That was after their boy Richard Riordan went down in defeat and after they let Bill Simon dangle in the wind with zero financial support.

We might have had Bill Simon in as governor, if not for the "operatives" who have now produced this total mess. He came within an ace of winning even though Parsky refused to raise any money for him--in fact encouraged Republican donors to give to Gray Davis.

Arnold's lost the confidence of conservatives. He's just moved over into some cave-in position to Democrats and after I read the article...Art Torres ridiculing and arrogantly so conservatives...the Democrats in CA prove time and time again that they are only capable of working with Democrats for liberal ideologies and cannot work with anyone else, or even comprehend conservative voters' preferences.

Democrats in CA are so complete entrenched, ENTRENCHED, in self indulgent, petulent and very nasty destructiveness to and about conservatives that they refuse any changes, and seem to resort to personal destruction when they perceive their strangelholds being threatened by change.

A lot of us hoped Schwarzenegger would be a conservative and shephard in some courage by way of the Governor's but what I think has occured is that he's been manipulated and humiliated by nasty Democrats -- nothing new there but most of us hoped he'd have the stuff to overcome that and maintain a course -- and has reverted to a passive, patsy type Governor that the Democrats can do whatever they want with.

He NEEDED an overall staff change, but not to replicate Gov. Davis', but to repair, revise and strengthen (he had a bad staff). Instead, he's just caved.

I hope the CA GOP can come up with a strong conservative for Governor and soon. The place sorely needs leadership and not of the Karl Marx, CA Demo kind.

he's got very little to lose.

Yes and no. Arnold is making a move designed to win the general election by appealing to moderates and liberals. The problem is that he has not won the Republican nomonation yet, and he won't without the support of the conservatives. So we may see someone like Tom McClintock runnung against Arnold in the primary.

Why... You are just viciously mean and hate filled to point something like that out on a website that can be read round the world!!! (/dripping sarcasm!)

Politically, either you are part of something, or you are in the wilderness.

My turn to play.

The CAGOP can recoup their losses if they act quickly and they have every motive to act quickly:

1) They have no control over the Austrian
2) They hate the Austrian's sponsor. They exiled him from the party.
3) They are getting their reputation tarnished and are losing their base.
4) A few more months of the Austrian's missteps and the CAGOP will be toast.

Dump the Austrian .. ahora!!. Replace him with a conservative and move on to the fight in November. The mob is still looking for a savior, the Democrat's nest is still fouled beyond immediate repair and a conservative still has an excellent chance to win in Nov 2006.

Don't forget that CA is a Blue state. If his policies start going even more left he's gone. Republicans in the state like me will stay home. Also, if he grant's clemency for this convicted quadrupole murderer he's toast. We'll all stay home next year. I'd rather have a Democrat that we can fight with the ballot initiative process then a RINO who will bend over at every step for the Democrats in the state. All I can say is "Hasta La Vista Babie."

"I hope the CA GOP can come up with a strong conservative for Governor and soon."

It's too late for that! The CAGOP already precluded the '06 Primary by endorsing Arnold clear back in February of this year!!! Arnold demanded it knowing that he would never survive a Primary any more than Riordan did!!!

Now our only hope is that Arnold throws in the towel and endorses either Parsky, Issa or McClintock, or some other person.

With Clarey gone, many believe liberal-leaning staffers like Kennedy, Zingale and senior aide Bonnie Reiss are likely to have more clout. ... She has reportedly been given power to hire within the governor's office, a move that hints at other possible shakeups.

Ain't that just peachy. Lefties in charge.

I warned all who would listen that when the Austrian went to the dark side, California would never get rid of him.

Don't feign surprise if there's an announcement in the coming months that he is changing his party registration.

Sorry, you're mistaken. This was all precluded in February of this year at the state CAGOP convention where they stupidly endorsed Arnold prematurely!!!

He knew he would never survive a Primary any more than Riordan did!!! So the convention swooned for Schwartzenegger in a premature... well, never mind!!!

And... I won't feign surprise if he pulls a Jesse Ventura and dumps politics entirely in '06!!!

Then the CAGOP will have a convention to pull their collective pants up from around their collective ankles!!! Ha Ha Ha!!!
