Maybe their failed model of, "just leave us alone while we buy up all your property, and don't pay taxes on much of it.... and by the way, we're not going to help you defend your stupid country", irritated some of their neighbors.

Umm, these folks aren't Mennonites or Brethren, no matter what they say.

There is a huge difference between actively fighting against the country you live in, vs. yourself, personally, deciding not to use force.

The difference is that between someone who chooses not to become a Marine, vs. someone going out and spitting on Marines.

I'm not following your logic, but nontheless it doesn't change the fact that Mennonite/Amish history is riff with tales of being run out of host countries.
