This is true. It's why most big businesses and labor unions traditionally split their donations between the two major parties, so they would always have a lifeline to the winner. Business gave a little more to the Republicans, but only a little more. Labor gave a little more to the Democrats, but usually on the order of 60-40.
What's disturbing is that these numbers have distinctly changed. Big business is still more or less split, but has trended toward the Democrats. Big labor is now more like 95-5 in favor of the Democrats. Rich people who used to give Republican now give Democrat. The chief source of Republican funds is small donations of $1,000 or less.
How do you explain this? I'd say it's precisely what you argue. People give to the best extortionists, and those are now almost universally Democrats. Democrats extort shamelessly. "Give me the money or else." Republicans seem to have lost their poltical will. "Please give me some money, I'm such a nice guy." That doesn't cut the mustard, not as long as they allow the Democrats to use every power of government to screw their constituents.

Scroll down to the section under the heading "Short Shrift," a little less than halfway through. This is NewsMax, to be sure, but it quotes several other sources from that time. The facts are not in dispute. At the time there were numerous reports from a number of sources.
No, technically the Post did not endorse Gore. And they retained their mostly conservative writers. But somebody put a leash on them, so on balance the newspaper wrote more favorably of gore that summer and fall than they did about Bush. You couldn't miss it back then if you were watching.
Oh, if you only knew....! You are correct about Murdoch playing both sides of the aisle as it pertains to business and political influence. You avoid any mention of his considerable support for Bush and the GOP, far, far outstripping any of his contributions to the Democrats.
Your contention that the Post was favorable to Gore over Bush is simply absurd. Again, I know what I speak of.
No offense, we're on the same side here. You are mistaken about the Post however.
Nonsense.
"I mentioned to the branch manager of my bank just how much safer I felt seeing the "No Cencealed Weapons of any type allowed" sign in the window, knowing that no bank robber would dare to use a gun while robbing the bank. For some reason, he wasn't amused."
Ironically, gas stations, convenience stores, banks, downtown at night, parking garages, etc. are where I am most comfortable carrying concealed. I do not normally turn around and walk away when I see one of these signs.
What does your bank do when someone walks in and ignores the sign? :o)
