I recall a show where some Marines were talking. They said they took very few prisoners in the Pacific. Most Japs fought to the death. Those few that didn't they killed anyway. One of the guys said something to the effect of "We were too busy fighting to worry about prisoners. And we were so remote - what would we do with them anyway?"
I browsed a book in a Doctor's office about medics. One medic wrote about being one of the first into a German prison/work camp (Jewish). They searched out the Germans, lined them up and shot them right then and there - the medic shooting too. (So much for Hawkeye Pierce!)
One last note. I heard on the radio that one of the "peace group" guys that was captured in Iraq is blaming the U.S. for his circumstances!
