no excuse for that....some game tickets, a plane ride or hunting trip or special edition 45-70...ok, I got it ...fair enough...been there, done that but this was way way over the top.

Situational ethics? I don't think so. A bribe's a bribe, whether it's an expensive one or a cheap-ass one.
I used to write product reviews for a magazine. The companies were always trying to give me stuff. I turned it all down, even the lousy cheap-ass t-shirts. It was a matter of principle. I didn't buy stock in the companies who made products I reviewed. I didn't "fly up there" to get a sneak peek, unless I paid for it myself.
The result? You could trust my reviews to be based on performance, rather than payoffs.
No bribe is the only bribe any politician should take, and that includes tickets and nights on the town. Anything else is unethical. Period!
