Disgusting. He should know better. His ego and bluff and bravado got to him. Duke was a military man who had a meager retirement. When he got to Congress with the likes of Gigalo Kerry, Corzine, Jane Harmon, Pelosi, etc., he realized he was a pauper.

Envy leads to greed which leads to corruption. Shame on him. He could have retired and made big bucks as a lobbyist or gotten some cushy job with a defense contractor. Instead he is going to the big house.

$7,200 paid to an antique store for a circa 1850 Louis Phillipe period commode and a circa 1830 Restoration period commode

As disgusting as this guy is...at least I have an idea how much my two antique commodes are worth.

What is with this phenomenon of frauds using their ill-gotten gains
to purchase antique toilets?

IIRC, investigation of some misuse of federal funds by Stanford U. revealed
that the university president (chancellor?) had used some of the money
to buy an antique Italian commode.
(this happened about 20 years ago)

From the plea agreement (PDF):
METHODS AND MEANS OF THE CONSPIRACY

In furtherance of this conspiracy, defendant and his Coconspirators used the following methods and means, among others:

a. Defendant demanded, sought, and received at least $2.4 million in illicit payments and benefits from his Coconspirators in various forms, including cash, checks, meals, travel, lodging, furnishings, antiques, rugs, yacht club fees, boat repairs and improvements, moving expenses, cars, and boats;

b. Defendant made recommendations and took other official action in order to influence the United States Congress's appropriations of funds to benefit Coconspirator No. 1 [Wilkes] and Coconspirator No. 2 [Wade], which defendant did, in part, because of his receipt of the above-described payments and benefits, and not because using Coconspirators Nos. 1 and 2 was in the best interest of the country;

c. Defendant used his public office and took other official action to pressure and influence United States Department of Defense personnel to award and execute government contracts in a manner that would benefit Coconspirator No. 1 and Coconspirator No. 2, which defendant did, in part, because of his receipt of the above-described payments and 'benefits, and not because using Coconspirators Nos. 1 and 2 was in the best interest of the country;

d. Defendant used his public office and took other official action in a manner that would benefit Coconspirator No. 3, which defendant did because of his receipt of the above-described payments and benefits;

(snip)

There's a saying that once a person gets elected to Congress, they never, ever spend another cent of their own money, for anything, ever again......even without taking graft and payoffs.

Might be time to have an unveiling of what exactly it costs working-class Americans to subsidize the lifestyle of a Congressman from the US Treasury.
