Hero NYC Cop Killed By Our Mania Over Guns
NY Post ^ | November 29, 2005 | Dr. Robert Kurtz

Posted on 11/29/2005 9:28:50 AM PST by dead

Dr. Robert Kurtz, co-director of trauma and critical care at Kings County Hospital, fought to save the life of hero cop Dillon Stewart.

Dr. Kurtz said the time has come to get the guns off the city's streets...

THE country and the city are awash in guns and we have to do something about it.

New York, as we all know, has very restrictive gun laws and a very active police force that works very hard to get guns off the streets.

But when the whole country is deluged with guns, and when people can buy guns very easily in Florida, Georgia, and Virginia and bring them up here, they're much too easily available.

Consider what would have happened yesterday with stricter federal gun controls in effect. If this man were angry at Officer Dillon Stewart, he might have punched him instead of shooting him.

But when he could turn to a gun to settle a dispute, the results were tragic. What an utter waste of a decent young man. What a waste of so many lives.

Why have we allowed our city streets to become war zones — war zones that have made us so experienced at treating gunshot wounds at KCH that we were chosen to train Army nurses and doctors in battlefield medicine?

There have been a slew of bills out there in Congress to curb the gun lobby. But the armaments industry controls the National Rifle Association, and the NRA has intimidated politicians, both Republican and Democratic, making it impossible to pass suitably restrictive gun laws…

We've lectured against violence and we've let people know how important gun control is… Hopefully, the death of Officer Stewart will reignite the people's passion to bring the gun lobby to heel.

The good doctor is a progressive fellow, who understands that societies are much safer when only well-trained professionals in the police and military may have handguns.

Ordinary civilians have not need for them!

"Massachusetts has already stated that it will stop the sale of guns in OTHER states."

Here in Florida, our legislators are breathlessly awaiting the blinding light of satori which just has to be the reason Massachussets has its peculiarly anti-American views on guns and the Second Amendment.

Oops! A source tells me that not one legislator is bringing lunch, so it must be that they are not going to wait for the Massachussets "vision" thingie after all.

(Let me get this straight: the shooting occurred in the city and state with some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country and "Dr Demento" here thinks the problem is not enough gun control? )

Actually, is may well be "Dr. Deformo" if he is (as is all too likely, alas) a NYC Liberal co-religionist of mine. If so, odds are he is a member of a "Reform" congregation. And we conservative/orthodox Jews tend to laughingly dub them, and their congregation as the "Deform" rather than the "Reform" congregation, etc.

Think of it as insdier humor, akin to some of the less than charitable terms used in any religious schism. For example, how Northern Baptists refer to some Southern Baptists.

But the gun grabbing rhetoric is, sad to say, far more common amongst the "Deformed" than the Baptists. Pity!

They are trying to do it at the federal level with their scumbag verion of the KKK (Kennedy, Kerry and Kongressmen) pushing gun control along with kapo Schemer and Hitlery from New York.

"They are trying"

Yes, they can be very trying, but aside from their irritation factorthere is little or no chance they will succeed.

The high water mark of Communism Lite is now visible across America as their wave receeds. It is apparent everywhere as blobs of bloviating fat, or oily, carefully coifed "minority spokespersons" blabbering platitudes from Marx or straight out of Mao's Little Red Book.

That scraping sound they hear is the dustpsn of reality about to sweep them away to the dustbin of history.

Soon, I may again be able to buy a Lathi 20mm - a toy for the older boy if there ever was one. ;-)

But I don't think the old price of $90 will ever be back. ;-(

he might have punched stabbed him instead of shooting him.

Or, more likely. . .

But the armaments industry controls the National Rifle Association

Proof that the author does comedy.

and the NRA has intimidated politicians, both Republican and Democratic, making it impossible to pass suitably restrictive gun laws…

True, and thank God they have.

Hopefully, the death of Officer Stewart will reignite the people's passion to bring the gun lobby to heel.

Proof that the author is totally, totally out of touch with reality. The people are the gun lobby.
