Excellent opinion article by Sen. Joe Liebermann (I'm suprised I'm saying this!)

Our Troops Must Stay America can't abandon 27 million Iraqis to 10,000 terrorists. BY JOE LIEBERMAN
Tuesday, November 29, 2005 12:01 a.m. EST

I have just returned from my fourth trip to Iraq in the past 17 months and can report real progress there. More work needs to be done, of course, but the Iraqi people are in reach of a watershed transformation from the primitive, killing tyranny of Saddam to modern, self-governing, self-securing nationhood--unless the great American military that has given them and us this unexpected opportunity is prematurely withdrawn. Progress is visible and practical.

Could there actually be an honest and forthright Democrat that might be able to fill the vacant shoes left by former Sen. Zell Miller of Georgia? Tough talk, we'll have to wait and see if he persists. (I'm not a judge and there ain't enough of me to be a jury. by Zell Miller, A National Party No More)

Zell Miller's one of a kind. Lievermann showed his colors when he ran as VP and it wasn't pretty. It's hard to feel the same about him...

Lieberman was stiffed by the Dems in their primaries because he was not a slobbering leftist moron. At times, he actually cares about this country (amazing!). That disqualified him from the far-left ranks.

In spite of this, the libs had a chance to beat Bush, if they had run Lieberman. But the libs are not recognized for political expertise...especially nowadays.

[moonbat] Of course, Lieberman is a Jew and part of the neocon PNAC cabal that wanted to get rid of Saddam at any cost in order to protect Israel. [/moonbat]

"Lievermann showed his colors when he ran as VP and it wasn't pretty."

It was definitely his low point, but I regard the real Lieberman as the one who wrote this article, not the VP candidate. I just figure he was temporarily tarnished by association with the scum of the Clinton/Gore crowd, and that he's now returned to his normal self.

I agree, I remember thinking during the 2000 campaign that I must have been nuts to have ever held Lieberman in high regards.

Leiberman is an old school Democrat not owned by the Coalition Democraps. If they were all like him we might not have to hold our nose when going to the ballot box.

Joe Lieberman and Zell Miller are the last patriotic Democrats standing upright in spite of the left.

This article and the fact that Cindy Sheehan has been so obviously (and, in a personal sense, tragically) abandoned by a formerly-adoring MSM are hopeful signs.

I agree with you. Couldn't stand him as Gore's running mate, but have been continually surprised since then. He shows a lot of wisdom and maturity for a dem.

Soledad "Named After a Prison" O'Brian interviewed Lieberman this morning on CNN. It was obvious that he was giving her all the wrong answers.

Lieberman's one of the few Democrats who talk tough on national security in a non-election year.

Lieberman seems to me to be a thoughtful and logical guy. I don't agree with all his positions but I repect his even keel style.
