Specter of antitrust: Senator says T.O. mistreated

PHILADELPHIA -- Sen. Arlen Specter is accusing the National Football League and the Philadelphia Eagles of treating Terrell Owens unfairly. The Pennsylvania Republican says he might refer the matter to the antitrust subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which he is the chairman. Specter said at a news conference Monday in Harrisburg it was "vindictive and inappropriate" for the league and the Eagles to forbid the all-pro wide receiver from playing and to prevent other teams from talking to him. He said, "It's a restraint of trade for them to do that" and "it might be a violation of antitrust laws." Some other legal experts disagree. Arbitrator Richard Bloch said last week the team's actions were supported by the labor agreement between the league and the NFL Players Association. The Eagles suspended Owens on Nov. 5 for four games without pay for "conduct detrimental to the team." They deactivated him with pay on Sunday after the suspension ended.

Does Arlen realize that this was done in accordance with the terms of a collective bargaining agreement? If this situation violates anti-trust laws then every collective bargaining agreement does.

I have given Specter the benefit of the doubt up to now...
----
Well, I did not. Just for this reason. He was a horrid pick for the judiciary committee, and I continue to PRAY FOR TERM LIMITS to keep these senile, useless, dysfunctional loons out of the Congress!!!

It's my personal opinion that the media demonized TO out of all proportion because he dared to bash McNabb.

Think about it!

Think Rush!

Talk about an abuse of your power. If any SANE Republican Senator is reading this thread, please consider removing Senator Specter from his position of power. PLEASE!

"Senile" is certianly one that comes to mind...

But how about such other classics as "idiotic," "asinine," and that old standby, "silly?"

All would seem to apply perfectly to that arrogant ass from Pennsylvania.

Note to Senator Spector,
Do something important like have meetings on the nomination of Alito. And stay out of disputes between a team management and a player problem.

"It's a restraint of trade for them to do that"

To pay someone their full salary to not work is restraint of trade? Interesting. I wish someone would restrain my trade. :)

I suspect this is a case of Arlen Specter scratching TO's back right now, and TO will "take care" of Specter later on, like a hefty deposit into a retirement fund. Just a hunch.

Spincter needs a real job.(disarming IEDs in Iraq works for me) For him to even mention this is ridiculous. Whoever said Owens must have made contributions to Arlen must be on to something.

How is this the business of the Senate? Someone should hide this idiot's Depends so he has to leave the stage.

Personally, I think we'd all be better off if Specter spent the entire rest of his career investigating this matter in intricate detail, and holding periodic press conferences to keep us up to date.

I must disagree. TO basically busted the team’s ego-cap with acts of selfishness. He clearly believes he is more special than his teammates and expected to be treated as such. I have worked with a few people like TO in the past and although they may have been physically talented, they were mentally deficient and did not play well with others. If TO wants the stage to himself, he should try boxing or figure skating.
