Specter: NFL may have violated anti-trust laws on T.O.
By Amy Worden INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
Sen. Arlen Specter today accused the NFL of potentially violating anti-trust laws in its treatment of Terrell Owens and said he is investigating the matter.
Speaking at a news conference in Harrisburg, Specter said the NFL and the Eagles have effectively "blacklisted" Owens from football by forbidding him to play and prohibiting other teams from talking to him.
"It's a restraint of trade for them to do that and the thought crosses my mind it might be a violation of anti-trust laws," Specter said. "The NFL can have whatever rules it wants on authorizing suspension or keeping you on the team for the balance of the year, but they can't violate the law."
Specter said he began looking into the possibilty of anti-trust violations this morning after reading an account of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' alleged "tampering" with Owens.
"The NFL has a limited anti-trust exemption for revenue-sharing but they are subject to the anti-trust laws like everyone else," Specter said.
The Eagles have filed a complaint with the NFL accusing Jones of tampering because of comments the Dallas Cowboys owner made on a radio show regarding a question about Owens.
When asked whether he would consider signing the Eagles' suspended receiver, Jones initially said he was "deliberately avoiding saying whether or not the Cowboys would be interested."

Arlen Specter sounds like Al Davis in drag.
Specter has time to represent T.O but not enough time to hear the Alito hearing. What a bunch of B.S.
But the Senate is too busy to start Alito's Supreme Court nomination hearings.
What a pathetic Senator I have!
Beat me by seconds!
Don't the Eagles still have to pay him after his 4 game suspension is up? If so they aren't denying him anything. Lots of players are inactive while under contract.
This is a joke, right?
Wonder if he ever got around to reading the National Intelligence Estimate?
It'a called "Retirement Due to Ongoing Senility," Arlen.
Live it, love it. For all our sakes.
Yep - just a matter of time before Specter announces that the Alito confirmation hearings will have to pushed even further back than Jan. 9 so this vitally important grandstanding can take place.
Hey Specter, just do the job you were elected to do and quit sticking your nose where it does'nt belong.
Maybe he'd like to check TO for steroids.
Personally.
could be......it's been one for weeks.
First Ralph Nader, now Snarlin' Arlen...

first of all Specter, there is a thing called the Trade deadline in the NFL....what a dumbass
secondly, the Eagles have the right to activate or de-activate any player they wish too. It's in the collective bargaining agreement that the players signed off on.
Who would want T.O. to play for them now with his attitude?
Oh yeah, I forgot. I'm a Patriots fan...
Specter and TO can both go to Canada to continue their careers. I imagine an arena football team could use Owen's talents. As for Specter, maybe a Scottish legal firm since he such an expert on Scottish law.
Why would you expect Spector to know these things, he is like a talking mannequin. I see he has no time for Alito's hearings, plenty of time for this crap.
well you know :)
They are still paying him and will continue to pay him Not to play.
