Probably because the President didn't say anything of substance.

Tepid applause when the President mentioned Sen. McCain. Much louder applause and even cheers when he then mentioned Sen. Kyl. Whick one has partnered with Sen. Ted Kennedy on another amnesty scheme? Which one says he wants enforcement first and for "temporary" workers to return home before being permitted into any temporary worker program? Just guess.

Thank you for your replies and not declaring me nuts.

Yes, I thought his speech was a dud. And at that, I took into consideration that his audience was pretty much handpicked for maximum applause and other background noise approval which was lacking.
