Keep in mind that what the church is asking for is to allow those members to do VOLUNTEER work for the church. The church strongly encourages service as part of a Christian lifestyle.

I have a lot of respect for the Mormons, but I don't like what they did here at all!

I generally respect the rank and file, but I've gone one round too many with the higher ups in the LDS church to care a great deal for them.

All that said, this is a little bit surprising. Whatever can be said of Mormon spiritual doctrines, their politics tend to be solidly conservative.

I too have great respect for many Mormans, the ones who have earned it. I don't have any respect for the greedy infiltrators with an adjenda, who have crept into the major denominations.

Something from the article that it looks like most of us missed:

Mary Jane Collipriest, Mr. Bennett's spokeswoman, said Mr. Tancredo is misinterpreting the law because it doesn't affect illegal aliens' status and does not shield them from being caught and deported. Volunteers can get room, board and other living expenses, but not a regular income.

She said the law "clarifies that a religious organization will not be in violation of federal immigration law should an undocumented alien, who is already in the United States, perform only volunteer ministry or missionary work for that religious organization."
