It may have been an actual missile .... fired from a US Naval vessel and aimed at a target on the China Lake Firing Range.

I find it hard to believe that the Navy would fire a missle over the LA basin to impact 100+ miles away in the Mojave desert. Not exactly standard range procedure.

The missle corridor is over the Grapevine.....over Tejon Ranch.....they regularly fly cruise missles over that route.
