Genesis says death started with the sin committed by Adam and Eve. There was no death prior to this. Evolution says we basically started as "germs" and through death, life evolved.
Here's a monkey wrench to throw in:
For those that scoff at the earth being 6000 years old, it could possibly be longer.
First, there is the gap theory which says the time between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 cannot be calculated. The theory is that during this gap of time, Satan rebelled and was cast to the earth and this caused it to be without void.
Second, there is no record of how long Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden before the Fall. It reads like Eve was created and the next thing you know, they sinned against God. It could have happened that way, but it could have been that they existed for near eternity before sinning...perfect world, direct communication with God...they could have gone a long time prior to sinning.
Did evolution go on outside the Garden prior to that? I don't think so. I know at least, man did not descend from apes. I also know that the six days of creation are literal.
