> How about if the devices are off when the pulse hits? Would they be okay when electricity is restored?

Not sure. Remember, a lot of electronics get zapped by lightning while off but plugged into the wall socket.
It may depend on how they are grounded.

3 US Congressmen in Humvee Rollover in Baghdad...two hospitalized.

Two Congressmen Injured in Iraq After Military Vehicle Overturns En Route to Airport
The Associated Press

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A military vehicle carrying three congressmen overturned on the way to the Baghdad airport, injuring two of them, the U.S. Embassy said Sunday.

Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Pa., was airlifted to a military hospital in Germany for an MRI on his neck, and Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Mo., was sent to a Baghdad hospital for evaluation, said Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Ga., who was also in the vehicle but was not hurt when it overturned Saturday.

"I was supposed to come tour the hospital to talk to the wounded. I didn't think I'd be among them," Murphy told Pittsburgh's KDKA-TV by phone from Germany. He said he expected to be home Monday night.

Skelton's spokeswoman Lara Battles said she believed Skelton was doing well but declined to comment further.

The politicians were riding in a convoy that was driving in the middle of the road, a common practice used by the military in Iraq to deter oncoming motorists. Shortly after dark, an oncoming tanker truck refused to yield, the embassy said.

"Then all of a sudden brakes get slammed on. Then we hit something and go off the side of the road and tip over," Marshall told The Macon (Ga.) Telegraph by phone from Baghdad.

Marshall said that as the vehicle toppled over, he held onto Skelton, who has limited use of his arms due to childhood polio. The embassy said the driver's quick reaction "probably averted disaster."

The delegation had traveled to Afghanistan for Thanksgiving with the troops and then on to Baghdad to meet with troops there.

In the winter of 1988 in West Virginia five thousand shoppers rioted in late November because the demand for Cabbage Patch Dolls exceeded supply on hand. Similar scenes were repeated across America as people trampled and assaulted other toy shoppers leaving a trail of broken arms and hospitalized customers. Even the employees at Coleco toys who manufactured the doll had to take security measures when carrying their products to personal appearances.

Ya, that was the first thought that came to me. Granted, they can be powerful, but it would take a -bunch- of 'em to do that.

To think, some people still pine for the years of Clinton. I have to wonder if its Clinton they miss or the fact most of these folks were 10 pounds lighter and had fewer wrinkles.

How about if the devices are off when the pulse hits?

IMHO an Electro-Magnetic-Pulse with enough amplitude could scramble the data on the magnetic layer of powered down hard drives.

As I recall you are a John Batchelor Show fan? My radio station WRKO has been preempting his show with basketball. Can you tell me what station you listen to his show? maybe they have a stream I can link up with.

I'm doing that with this Houston station now for the Drudge show.

I think they view the Clintons as same sort of wonky, self-serving, pleasure-loving college/hippy types that they were that still made it to the top.
