Texas Woman Mauled to Death by Six Dogs

Nov 27 2:52 PM US/Eastern

THORNDALE, Texas

A pack of six dogs mauled a 76-year-old woman to death as she worked in her yard, authorities said.

Lillian Loraine Stiles was riding on a lawn mower in her front yard Saturday when she was confronted by the dogs, described as pit bull- rottweiler mixed breeds, said Milam County Sheriff Charlie West.

Investigators think Stiles was attacked when she got off the mower and headed into her house.

Stiles had severe bites over her entire body, and a man who tried to help her was bitten on one leg, authorities said.

The dogs were found at the home of Stiles' neighbor, Jose Hernandez.

The sheriff's department will send the findings of its investigation to the Milam County District Attorney's Office, which will decide if any criminal charges will be filed against Hernandez.

Thorndale is located about 70 miles west of College Station.

This is why there are leash laws on the books and regulations that register and tag all animals. This is how responsible citizens conduct business.

These dogs should be outlawed, rounded up and exterminated as a breed. Period. End of discussion.

Why do idiots always have to learn that we are right and they are wrong at the expense of mutilation or death of one or more innocent persons.

What a complete and arrogant ass you are to presume that everyone who doesn't see it your way is an idiot.

Pray to gawd your daughter never offends the peaceful Rotweiler, such as appearing to interfere with something it believes is its, like food or sex. Your daughter will probably not survive.

No, I pray to God. As for this animal I'm convinced that it is of no threat. I used to have a chow that everyone just told me was going to eat my children one day. I can't count the times I heard, "Oh sure, it's peaceful now, but it will turn on you." She never did. She died as peacefully as she lived. Probably the best pet I ever had.

Don't bother posting some sweet story of your pit-bull as a rebuttal.

Lol...You're allowed to post your horrible story as the basis of your argument
But no one is allowed to post their nice story as a rebuttal.

Anyway, arguing from the specific to the general is a shaky path to follow.
In the early 70's I shared a farm with a couple.
I had a beagle.
One day I went into town.
When I returned I found that the beagle had killed all my friends chickens.
Feathers and body parts everywhere.

Beagles are killers...just looking for the right opportunity to kill something.

May God bless this family in their grief. May the victim RIP. I ask this in Jesus name. Amen.

It's about time we rid this country of illegal aliens one at a time as they are noticed by the local PDs. Let's start with this family and I can think of a few things to do with these killer dogs.

Yep.
My wish is that the laws have enough bite
and that they are applied rigorously.
In virtually every case like this there have been previous complaints against the owners.
Why do we have to wait until tragedy strikes?

...and a single shotshell "might" deter a dog attack successfully.

From a .25 auto? I've fired a few .22 magnum shotshells (more powerful than a .25 auto). Those little shotshells wouldn't even penetrate the skin of a dog. Fire one at a cardboard box sometime. The pattern is pitiful, and the penetration is negligible. If the situation is so bad that a firearm is required, it had better be up to the task. A .25 auto with shotshells wouldn't even kill a snake! Well, maybe if you shoved it in the snake's mouth and pulled the trigger...

it seems to me that pit-bull protagonists are trying to adapt the pro-gun lobby's arguments to defend pit-bulls. It isn't working ...

Yes, that is an insightful point.

On a slight lighter note, I can't help noticing that the savage dog enthusiasts are the best friends of the gun lobby. As long as these brutes are roving about, mauling and killing, it is self-evident that everyone should have a weapon.

Hope the Rot never turns on you or anyone you love.

Hope you and your loved ones are careful when you go swimming. Sadly, you, I or anyone who might enjoy swimming has a greater chance of drowning in a pool, pond or ocean than being mauled to death by a dog.

I was only yards away from Mrs. Stiles' house, playing outside with 5 children, 48 hours ago. After heading inside for the evening, one of the topics of conversation was dogs in the neighborhood -- I kid you not. Our discussion began because we had been talking about all of the coyotes that were roaming the area in recent weeks. We also talked about the dog that was laying at my feet, and how it was an extremely protective guard dog, etc. This dog was either penned up in the yard given all the company (& children) present, or in a cage in the house. For a short period of time, the dog was permitted to walk about the living room where the adults were sitting. The dog was also wearing a shock collar.

The problem with Milam County is that there are no leash laws because of how rural the area is.

Not two hours ago after reading this, I spoke with my family living in Thorndale. I asked about the immigration status of the dog owners. My family didn't have that information. I see that I was right, according to your post. This dog-owner family has children in the Thorndale public school system, for FReepers wanting to know.

Bottom line...Milam County needs to make laws placing fences around these animals, and the US needs to build a fence to keep these illegal, no speaka da Inglish killers of retirees on riding lawn mowers on their own property, out of this country.

WAKE up, America!!!

Wael, I'm sure as heck not going to try to tell you different.  Your choice to risk your safety.

For a year or two the people east of me kept a Rottweiller.  It never ate anybody.  Never attacked anybody.  Never bit anybody I know about.

I always made sure to feed the thing whenever I got close to the fence line.  It never gave me a moment of grief.  Probably thought of me as a friend.

It snarled, growled and barked at anybody else coming close.

Would have shot it dead had it come through the fence.

will decide if any criminal charges will be filed against Hernandez.

They were his dogs, they were loose, of course he is responsible.

Pray to gawd you don't own a car or ride in automobiles. You are at much greater risk from accidents than the lady with the rottwieler for neighbor.
