Peace prize for a murderer? -- STANLEY "TOOKIE" WILLIAMS was nominated for the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize this week. His supporters call him "wise," "compassionate," "well-read," and "wide-eyed like a child." So just what are Tookie Williams' qualifications for one of the most prestigious honors in the world -- an award reserved for such eminent figures as Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Quakers, and the Red Cross? Williams is a hulking body-builder, recovering drug addict, co-founder of the violent Crips street gang in South Central Los Angeles, and resident of death row in San Quentin, Calif.

Here are a few FACTS I could dig up on the internet:

Sheriff's Homicide Detectives Jack Fueglein and Barry Jones were assigned the case in Pico Rivera, and Sergeant Gene Hetzel and Detective James Solar were assigned the triple-murder at the motel. The fact that Williams had killed 4 innocent people in 12 days apparently shocked even associates of the killer as numerous tips were received from the community. The shotgun was recovered and was matched ballistically to both murders. The detectives utilized their inter-personal skills to obtain information and cooperation from witnesses, including some of Williams' co-conspirators, who stated that Williams told them that he never permitted robbery victims to live to become witnesses against him. Williams, who is the co-founder of the Crips Street Gang, was found guilty of the four murders, and lesser included offenses, and was given the death penalty. He is now in his early 50's, and resides on Death Row in San Quentin State Prison.

	Barbara Becnel, a crusading journalist who "edits" Williams' writings, once gushed that if the death-row inmate had "been raised in Brentwood instead of South Central, he'd be head of the state Democratic party." They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the above statement really says it all about liberals.

Williams' groupies would have us believe that their Nobel Peace Prize nominee is a helpless victim of his environment, addled by low self-esteem, forced to turn to violence by racist oppressors ----I think the last line in bold print safely says we can add complete ignorance to his qualificatios and anyone that supports this animal is just as ignorant as he is. You don't give murderers prizes of ANY kind

MORE FACTS: In 1971, Stanley "Tookie" Williams co-founded a street gang in Los Angeles that later came to be know as the Crips. He was 17 years old. Though Williams and Raymond Washington claim to have started the gang as a stand against the random violence in their neighborhood, within a year of inception, the Crips were involved in 29 homicides in Los Angeles. The Crips became one of the most prevalent and violent street gangs in Los Angeles before spreading throughout the U.S. and into Canada and Mexico. Arguments for his clemency center around Williams' deeds during his time on death row. He has worked to try to decrease the influence of gangs, particularly with school-age children. He has even written a series of children's books subtitled, "Tookie Speaks Out Against Gang Violence." I don't want to downplay the positive impact on society that Williams has made. I don't doubt that he has been transformed and rehabilitated, but unless his service to the greater good has included a way to revive the dead, I don't believe that there is anything that Williams could accomplish that would atone for his crimes. Albert Owens, a former soldier in the U.S. Army, was an outgoing, 26-year old father of two. He was working the night shift at 7-Eleven when Williams and three accomplices entered the store. Williams took Owens into the backroom, made him kneel or lie down and shot him twice in the back with a 12-gauge shotgun. According to court documents, Williams later bragged that he "blew some white guy away, shot him in the back, for $63."

Eleven days later, Williams and his accomplices robbed a motel office and, in the process or possibly after the fact, gunned down the Yang family, who owned the motel. The father, Yu-Chen Li, was shot in the face with a 12-gauge shotgun and died immediately. Yen-I and Tsai-Shai, mother and daughter, each received two shotgun blasts to the chest as they cowered together on the floor in front of their sofa. Mother and daughter were barely alive when emergency personnel reached them. They both died a short time later. Before Williams and his crew left, they remembered to pick up their shotgun shells so as not to leave behind any evidence. They missed one. To this day, Williams maintains his innocence in all four murders. If his conviction were based solely on his original trial in 1979, I would consider the possibility that he is innocent, but his guilt has been proven repeatedly through the appeals process.

THANKS, I was just doing a search and came up with the original article. It appears they have tried to use the new " you cant execute a disabled person" defense.

I was looking for more victims comments regarding the 4 known killed. To pretend those are the only 4 he killed is beyond silly.

There was a discussion about him on the radio. He may write about the gang life trying to keep kids out of it but he has never publicly denounced his membership in the gang. He still will only associate with his prison gang.

He has not changed, he is just better at working the system. A talent learned from his peers in prison no doubt.

Some lady named Michelle on the www says this: How can one not agree??? To grant him clemency now and allow him to continue to lead the life of a famed educator, one who was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, is to reward him for his crimes. Williams would not have been able to lead a life this grand if he had not committed those crimes. If he had continued on the same path, he surely would have been dead long before now. The average lifespan of gang members today is 20.5 years. At the age of 51, Williams has already outlived most of his criminal colleagues.

There is little doubt in my mind that Michelle will be able to write as many stories as she wants on the "LIVE & WELL TOOKIE" after Dec 13th.

Arnold of course is a RINO and has no choice but to pardon him if he wants to HAVE ANY CHANCE of being re-elected.

We will finally find out if Arnold is indeed a "GIRLY MAN"........or not!!

If Arnold commutes this murderers sentence, he will have lost the last sliver of respect or support I ever had for him.

His signing the bill that allowed the state to go back over 30 years ago and extort what the state claimed were unpaid taxes, even if the person was out of state and interest added, of course, was bad enough. He left his victims with no recourse but to ante up in most cases, an attorney costing more than the money they wanted and giving such a short time for the victims to pay up.

Now, he considers commuting a cold blooded murderer's sentence because he claims to be against the very gangs he started?

As I said elsewhere, if "Tookie" is actually repented and actually wishes youths to stay away from gangs, what better message could he send now than his own execution?
