Wiccan rituals and spells have no roots prior to 1900, and are the result of inventions and adaptations by a group of men, notably Aleister Crowley and Gerald Gardner.Aleister Crowley was a profound deviant.

Witches become useful in dying States. They are hired by the population to poison those in the way. See Tacitus

There is no consistency in history to what a "witch" is. Maybe, but it has to weigh less than a duck ...

What is important to Wiccans, Sanders explains, is the experience of a spiritual reality, and not truth or a body of knowledge
And in fact, the beliefs of most Wiccans bear absolutely no resemblance to anything that Gardner came up with.

Bet the state wouldn't pay for anybody to go to a Christian retreat. . .
And Wiccans can get to use wands while in prison; but guards can't wear the English Cross of St. George as part of a charity drive, because that might be considered a religious symbol and would offend someone. . .

It's a good article. Speaking as a conservative witch, the only thing I really hate about Witchcraft is it's overemphasis on Feminism.
The Author is right (at least in my case) about "spiritual hunger". Modern Christianity (or Hinduism or Islam or Judaism or Ba'hai) was often unable (or unwilling) to answer my questions about God and the Universe. And any questions you ask of these people seems to result in the universal "You're questioning us? Okay - you're going to hell."

They believe all living things are equal and yet they believe themselves to be gods or goddesses with divine powers. Huh?
That doesn't make any sense to me.

Wiccans believe that they possess divine power within themselves and that they are gods or goddesses; their own personal power is unlimited by any deity Narcissism repackaged.

I always pictured the witches as having all kinds of sex at their meetings. You just spoiled my mental image.
