Because now I'm being forced to pick between Religious socialists and secular socialists.
At one time I could vote Republican because I believed in political conservatism and in reducing the power and scope of government. I don't think I can do that now.
You CAN support or oppose individual candidates who most closely share your philosophy.
More will be Republican than Democrat. Probably even more would be Libertarian, but I would not go there because of some stances of theirs that I strongly disagree with, and because all they do is siphon votes away from the more conservative main party candidate. They don't win. It's your choice, of course.
As for abortion as an issue, it is about a Life or a Death before someone even gets to be born. This is so powerful, as all of us, including you, who are posting our views did indeed get that chance to be born. You can't snuff out that powerful of an issue when compared to some things people debate that are far less cosmic and moral.
Then have fun with the death cultists and 'Rats. Those who don't respect life aren't worth worrying about--except as enemies. (Example: Islamic homicide bombers)
