Simple way out here. Just claim your refusal to stand is religiously based. That's been constitutional law for over 60 years.
Also it will really fluster the PCniks.

Where is this Larkin High School in Illinois and what is the principal's email address? I think it's time to give him a piece of our American minds. We need to continue to inundate these morons, nationwide, with our messages. This p.c. crap is only getting more twisted all the time.

See, if he had refused to stand up during the U.S. National Anthem there wouldn't have been any problem. He would have been simply exercising his right of self expression.

My son explained to the angry teacher who confronted him that he did not see a U.S. flag on the podium and he did not believe they were going to sing our national anthem. This teacher stated, "They have to stand for our national anthem, so you have to stand for theirs." Gosh, back in 1972 when I was in eighth grade, I only had to stand in the corner with my nose pressed against the wall when my "social studies" teacher explained to us how superior the Chinese system was to our system down to the point of stating that they ALWAYS take their shoes off before entering their abode.
I replied with "of course they would remove their shoes for after working in the rice patties and lacking a free system it would be only prudent".
This teacher wound up being an elected State Senator in my state as a Democrat of course.

Was he that quick, or did he think about that response beforehand? Either way, what a great way to highlight was dullards these teachers are.

Our high school apparently chose on Sept. 16 not to hold an assembly on the Constitution of the United States, but to educate our youth on the patriotic elements of another country. This needs some explaining as well.

May I be the first to say that this letter was beautifully written?
Better style, for instance, than 99% of current writers for the New York Times.
Better organization than most of essays posted here in the forum, although most are written by professional writers.
Better logic and more signs of rational thought, than you could probably find in any of the classrooms at that school.
Firm, but polite, unlike the rude and thoughtless behavior of the school teachers and administrators involved in this episode.
Altogether an admirable piece of work. I think we can see where this young man gets his principles--from his father and family.

My son stated in response, "Yeah, but they're in our country." His son is a pragmatic and smart lad. If I were in Mexico I would stand for their national anthem out of respect. However, I would never expect the Mexicans to play MY national anthem in Mexico.
The Larkin High School administration is stupid and is guilty of felony stupid political "correctness".

If nothing else, there was a teacher verbally abusing a student. The word "punk" was certainly not appropriate.
