When confronted with all those consequences, that second income doesn't look very "all-important", does it? Families with children are not meant to be two-income families unless one of those earners works full-time at home. Do anything else and you're extremely lucky if all the consequences described in the article do not visit your home.

That's right. Other things which effect the birthrate are the length of time people have to stay in school to get a good education. If an individual chooses a profession, he/she might be in the early 30s before they can begin to establish a career and a family. By that time, finding a suitable mate can be hard and fertility problems can be big. The indoctrination of women throughout their education, also, is a factor. Some saw their stay-at-home Mom's work 24/7 without any help, recognition or respect for their sacrifice, only to end up being dumped by a Dad who found a new trophy wife just as Mom was going into menopause. Many of these young women soaked up the politically correct, feminist ideas they encountered in college. Add to this today's cost of rearing a child, which is exorbitant and add to that the fact that a neighborhood "village" no longer exists which used to help rear kids (People do not know their neighbors and we now know that pedophiles lurk everywhere..In the teen years, we have the danger of sex, drugs and abortion)..All in all, the "family life" image is not one which beacons to today's youth. It is heartbreaking and dangerous and the consequences for society will, at some point, be overwhelming. As I see it, only faith in God which promotes the value of family, good values in general, and commitment to a spouse as a lifetime goal while at the same time addressing the problem of spouse abuse in a realistic way, among other things, will work to restore some of what we have lost.
