Heightened kidnap threat leads to travel advisory
By HERB KEINON aper]
The National Security Council's counter-terrorism unit issued a travel advisory on Thursday, warning Israelis to take special caution abroad in light of an increase in threats to kidnap Israelis.
"Recently the threat by terrorists to kidnap Israelis abroad has gotten worse," read a statement put out by the counter terrorism unit. The statement advised the following precautionary measures:
- Refrain from visiting Arab countries (with the exception of Mauritania and the Comoros Islands), and other countries where a travel advisory is in place, such as parts of Columbia, Ethiopia, Cote d'Ivoire, Sri Lanka and Kenya.
- Reject enticing and/or unexpected business offers from abroad.
- Refuse unexpected gifts or entertainment invitations from either people who are unfamiliar or who seem suspicious.
- Turn down unexpected invitations from unfamiliar people for meetings in remote areas, especially after dark
